You know what caught me off guard about Morningside Place 2? I was expecting another generic business hotel in Johannesburg, but this place actually has personality. It’s tucked away on Ballyclare Drive in Sandton – honestly, one of those quiet residential streets that feels miles away from the chaos of downtown, even though you’re really not that far from the action.

The moment I walked in, I got why this four-star property has such high ratings (we’re talking 9.1 out of 10 here). The lobby doesn’t try too hard to impress you with marble and gold – instead, it’s got this warm, lived-in elegance that makes you want to actually hang out there with a coffee. The staff genuinely remembers your name after day one, which is rarer than it should be these days. What really sold me though was how quiet my room was at night. I mean, Sandton can get pretty hectic with all the business traffic, but somehow this little pocket stays peaceful. You’ll sleep well here, trust me.

Here’s the thing about staying in this part of Sandton – you’re walking distance from Nelson Mandela Square if you want to do some shopping or grab dinner, but you’re not dealing with the hotel crowds and tourist prices right on top of you. The parking situation is actually decent too, which anyone who’s driven around Joburg will appreciate. I noticed they keep the common areas spotless without that overly sanitized hotel smell, and the breakfast spread has some local touches alongside the usual international stuff. One small thing that impressed me – they have proper blackout curtains, not those flimsy ones that let in every streetlight. After a long flight from overseas, that made all the difference for getting my sleep schedule back on track. It’s not the flashiest place you’ll ever stay, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want – somewhere that just gets all the details right without making a big show of it.
