I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Mount Royal 28 -Large 1 bed with balcony on Kopje Road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The building sits in this interesting part of Sandton where you’re close enough to the buzz but far enough away that you actually get some peace and quiet. You know what really struck me? The balcony. I mean, for a three-star place, having that outdoor space where you can actually sit with your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood come alive – that’s pretty special.

The apartment itself feels way more spacious than most hotel rooms you’ll find in Johannesburg. The bedroom’s genuinely large (not just hotel-large, if you know what I mean), and honestly, the whole setup works perfectly if you’re staying for more than just a night or two. I loved having a proper living area where I could spread out my laptop without feeling like I was working from my bed. The kitchen isn’t huge, but it’s got everything you actually need – I made breakfast a few times and grabbed groceries from the Pick n Pay just down the road. Actually, that whole strip of shops is really handy; there’s a decent coffee place and a pharmacy right there too.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re still in Sandton. The traffic on Kopje Road dies down after evening rush hour, and the building seems pretty well soundproofed. I stayed there during a busy work week and could actually concentrate during video calls without worrying about background noise. The balcony faces east, so you get lovely morning light – though fair warning, it can get pretty warm in the afternoon if you’re there during summer months. The whole area feels safe too; I walked around the neighborhood several times and never felt uncomfortable, plus there’s decent street lighting. Parking was straightforward, which honestly can be a real headache in some parts of the city. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s one of those places that just works well without trying to be fancy. You’re getting solid value, a genuinely comfortable space, and that balcony really does make a difference when you want to step outside without having to go anywhere. If you’re looking for something that feels more like a temporary home than a typical hotel room, this place hits the mark.

  Great complex, the apartment is very spacious, neat and clean.
  Privacy was good, security is on the ball but doesn't hassle you.
  Comfortable bed!!
  The huge bath is the best part by far!
  I ended up extending my stay for more than a week and they were very accommodating even shifting things around so I didn't have to move between units.
  Communication was great.
  
  What could be improved: Washing machine only works on the rinse and spin cycle and the dry function.
  Kitchen could be a little better equipped, no spatula or tongs etc when cooking.
  No ashtray on balcony.
  Some cleaning things (handy Andy etc) would be nice since it is self catering but every now and again the ladies did come past with a new dustbin bag at least.
