I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Mount Royal 30 Large 1 bed with balcony, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the name alone. But after spending time in this four-star spot on Kopje Road, I can tell you it’s one of those places that really grows on you, especially if you’re looking for something with more space than your typical hotel room.

The thing that hits you right away is how the balcony actually delivers on its promise – and I mean, you know how hotel “balconies” can sometimes be glorified ledges, right? This one’s got proper space where you can actually sit with your morning coffee and watch Sandton wake up below. The apartment itself feels genuinely large, not just hotel-marketing large, which is refreshing when you’ve been cramped in tiny city accommodations. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to make it feel residential without losing those hotel conveniences – housekeeping still comes through, there’s proper concierge service, but you’ve got a real kitchen if you want to grab groceries from the Woolworths down the road instead of eating out every meal.

Location-wise, you’re right in the heart of things without being stuck in the chaos of Nelson Mandela Square (though honestly, it’s an easy walk if you want the buzz). Kopje Road keeps you close enough to the Gautrain station that getting to OR Tambo isn’t a headache, and I found the street itself pretty quiet in the evenings – none of that construction noise that seems to follow you around Johannesburg these days. The building’s got decent security, which you definitely want in this area, and parking was straightforward when I had a rental car. I mean, it’s not the flashiest setup you’ll find in Sandton, but there’s something refreshingly no-nonsense about the whole operation. The staff actually seem to know the neighborhood well – they pointed me toward this excellent Ethiopian place about ten minutes away that I never would’ve found otherwise. If you’re the type who gets claustrophobic in standard hotel rooms or you’re staying more than a few days, this place makes a lot of sense, especially with that balcony space to decompress after dealing with Johannesburg traffic all day.

  We liked the fact that it was so central to where we needed to be and a familiar area for us as well. Place was very cute, neat and cosy with enough space for 2.
  
  What could be improved: On the other hand, when we looked at the place online, the pictures showed a TV downstairs as well as a TV upstairs however we only had a TV downstairs in the lounge, yes we still had a TV to watch on but it just seemed like false advertising. Also the DSTV decoder box didn't seem to be working…..but all in all it was a lovely stay and we would return again.
  
  Also just to add the securities on duty at this place was one of the highlights, such pleasant and welcoming staff. Very helpful!! Thank you 🙂
