I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to NYK Creations Apartments on Middle Road, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the name alone. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t immediately scream “luxury hotel” from the street. This four-star spot in Sandton turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you want to keep the secret to yourself.

The thing about staying here is that you’re genuinely living like a local rather than being stuck in some generic hotel bubble. These aren’t your typical cramped hotel rooms – I mean, we’re talking proper apartments with actual kitchens where you can make morning coffee without that weird hotel-room instant stuff. The space I stayed in had this really nice contemporary feel without being cold or sterile, and honestly, the attention to detail impressed me more than some five-stars I’ve crashed at. What really got me was how quiet it stays at night, which is no small feat when you’re this close to Sandton’s business district. I actually slept with the windows open most nights, something I rarely risk in Jo’burg.

The location is sort of perfect if you think about it – you’re close enough to walk to Sandton City when you need proper shopping or dining, but far enough from the main Rivonia Road chaos that you don’t feel like you’re sleeping in the middle of a construction zone. The staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure everything worked properly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case. Parking was straightforward (always a relief in Sandton), and they actually helped me figure out the best routes to avoid traffic when I needed to get to meetings in Rosebank. I particularly loved having that full kitchen setup – being able to grab fresh stuff from Woolies and actually cook meant I wasn’t eating hotel food or expensive restaurant meals every single night. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout the apartment, which matters when you’re trying to get work done or just want to stream something after a long day. If I had to nitpick, I’d say the elevators can be a bit slow during busy periods, but that’s hardly a dealbreaker. This place gets why people travel to Johannesburg – sometimes you need a proper base that feels like home, not just a place to crash between meetings.
