But this four-star place actually surprised me in the best way. The building sits in this quiet pocket of Randburg that feels refreshingly removed from the usual Johannesburg hustle, and there’s something genuinely welcoming about how they’ve designed the entrance. The staff at check-in were the kind of people who actually remember your name by day two, which is rarer than you’d think.

What really won me over was how they’ve managed to balance the business hotel functionality with actual comfort. I mean, yes, there are conference rooms and you’ll see the occasional corporate group wandering around with name tags, but it never feels like you’re staying in some soulless convention center. The rooms are properly spacious – and I’m talking about space you can actually use, not just empty floor area. The beds are firm but not rock-hard (thank goodness), and they’ve got these blackout curtains that actually work, which was a lifesaver since I was dealing with jet lag. The air conditioning runs quietly too, something I always notice because hotel AC units usually sound like freight trains.

The location is honestly one of those hidden gems that locals probably take for granted. You’re close enough to Johannesburg’s business districts that you’re not spending your life in traffic, but far enough out that you can actually sleep at night without constant sirens and car horns. There’s decent parking right on site – no hunting around Oak Avenue for street spots or paying ridiculous garage fees. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel with actual trees lining the streets, which sounds basic but makes such a difference when you’re walking around. I found a couple of solid coffee spots within a few blocks, and there’s a shopping center nearby that’s not fancy but has everything you actually need. Honestly, with an 8.2 rating from other travelers, it seems like most people figure out what I did – this place just works. It’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel in the city, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

  What could be improved: Drains blocked in showers and drainage behind dining room caused a lot of flooding through dining room, passage, and into rooms. This is still going to do lots of damage if the flow of storm water is not controled. Everything was under water.No plugs working in rooms during load shedding.
