I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to One Hyde Park – Sandton on Hurlingham Road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name had me thinking London luxury, but this is very much a Johannesburg experience, and honestly, it works better than you’d think. This four-star spot sits in that sweet spot between Randburg and the buzzing Sandton business district, which means you get the best of both worlds without the crazy traffic headaches that come with staying right in the CBD.

What actually impressed me most was how they’ve managed to create this sort of intimate boutique feel – you know, the kind of place where the front desk actually remembers your name by day two. The rooms have this modern, clean aesthetic that doesn’t feel cold or sterile, and I mean, the beds are properly comfortable (which, let’s face it, is what really matters after a long day of meetings or exploring). The bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not doing some weird dance around your luggage, and the shower pressure is – well, let’s just say it’s better than most places I’ve stayed in Johannesburg. You can tell they’ve put thought into the little things, like having enough power outlets near the bed and actual decent lighting for getting ready in the morning.

The location is actually pretty clever when you think about it. You’re close enough to Sandton City that you can walk there if you’re feeling energetic, but far enough away that you don’t hear the constant hum of traffic all night. Parking is sorted, which anyone who’s driven around this area knows is not a given. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work – I had them help me figure out the best route to avoid construction traffic one morning, and they actually knew what they were talking about. It’s got that neighborhood feel where you can grab a decent coffee nearby, but you’re still just minutes from all the business hotels and conference centers if that’s what brings you to town. For the price point and the 8.9 rating it’s earned, I’d definitely stay here again – it’s one of those places that just gets the basics right without trying too hard to be something it’s not.

  One Hyde Park is conveniently located close to all you'd want to do in the Rosebank area. The apartment was spacious — the perfect size for our family of four. The little cafe was a highlight and perfect for breakfast. The ladies who ran it were especially kind and friendly to our little ones.
  
  What could be improved: The neighborhood isn't exactly walkable but a $100 – 200 rand uber can get you pretty much anywhere you'd want to go on a visit.

  Excellent rooms and friendly efficient check in progress. The kitchen is well kitted out for self catering. All the staff, including the security is very helpful
  
  What could be improved: There was no milk sachets or coffee creamer which I feel should be included with the coffee and teas provided.
  
  On-site restaurant closes way too early for those who work later hours. Also opens too late for breakfast/coffee in the morning so its impossible to eat there before or after work.
