You know what really got me about Over The Moon Guesthouse? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Frederick Drive – honestly, Northcliff isn’t the flashy part of Johannesburg that most tourists flock to. But this five-star guesthouse completely changed my perspective on what boutique accommodation should feel like.

The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually lives and breathes hospitality here. I mean, we’re talking about a place that’s earned a 9.7 rating, and after staying there, I totally get why. The owners – and I’m pretty sure I met them during my stay – have this knack for anticipating what you need before you even realize it yourself. The rooms have that perfect balance of being pristine without feeling sterile, you know? Real Egyptian cotton sheets (not the fake stuff you get at chain hotels), and the kind of shower pressure that actually wakes you up in the morning. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, which is saying something for Jo’burg – you’re close enough to the city center to reach anything you want, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with traffic noise at all hours.

The breakfast situation alone is worth staying here for. They don’t just throw some continental spread at you and call it a day – we’re talking proper South African hospitality with fresh ingredients sourced locally. I actually ended up chatting with other guests over morning coffee (something that rarely happens at bigger hotels), and everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there. The staff knows the area inside and out too, which came in handy when I needed restaurant recommendations that weren’t the usual tourist traps. Parking was never an issue, which anyone who’s driven in Randburg will tell you is a minor miracle. Honestly, the attention to detail here reminded me why smaller guesthouses can run circles around big hotel chains when they’re done right – you feel like a person, not a room number.

  The swimming pool is the greatest hotspot. The area is surrounded by lots of trees, and the rooms have a nice balcony with a great view of Nature and Johannesburg's surroundings. They offer an interpersonal experience. One gets to receive messages directly from the owner of the guesthouse. They cater to one's needs and wants. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

  One of the best views in the area for any guest house or hotel.
  The owners and staff are wonderful people who make you feel at home and are hands-on with making sure that you are comfortable and have everything you need. They are present throughout the day and accomidate each guest's needs individually.
  The rooms and entire property are pristine, modern and meticulously kept up. The area is safe and quiet, yet conveniently located.
  I have stayed here multiple times and will again for any future trips to the city.
