Palmar Hotel Overview

So I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Palmar Hotel on Die Agora Road, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The address had me scratching my head a bit (it’s literally “8 Die Agora Road 8 Die Agora Road” which made my GPS do some interesting things), but once you’re there, you know you’re in the right spot. This three-star place sits in a pretty decent part of Johannesburg, and after spending a few nights there, I actually think it punches above its weight class in some ways.

The thing about Palmar is that it gets the basics really right, you know? The rooms are clean – like, properly clean, not that “we sprayed some air freshener and called it good” clean you sometimes get. I mean, the décor isn’t going to win any awards, but honestly, after a long day exploring Joburg, you just want a comfortable bed and a shower that doesn’t take five minutes to warm up. They’ve got both covered. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions – they actually gave me some solid recommendations for places to grab dinner that weren’t tourist traps. One guy at the front desk even warned me about which streets to avoid walking down after dark, which I really appreciated since I’m not from around there.

What really surprised me was how quiet it stays at night, especially considering you’re right in the city. I was expecting traffic noise and general urban chaos, but the rooms are pretty well insulated. The parking situation is actually manageable too – there’s secure parking on-site, which honestly takes a huge stress off your shoulders when you’re dealing with a rental car in Johannesburg. Breakfast is nothing fancy, but it’s fresh and gets the job done before you head out for the day. I will say the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty in some rooms (mine was fine, but I heard a couple other guests mentioning issues), so if you absolutely need rock-solid internet, maybe mention that when you book. Overall though, for what you’re paying, Palmar delivers solid value without any major surprises – good or bad. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, don’t worry about your stuff, and wake up ready to tackle whatever Johannesburg has to offer.

Reviews of Palmar Hotel

  • Very Good – Ncanywa from South Africa – September 21, 2025 (8/10)

    Everything was great

  • Lovely place, I would definitely go there again any day!! – Mbuso from South Africa – September 21, 2025 (9/10)

I loved that what I saw on the site when I was booking the place was exactly what I got when I got there

What could be improved: One of the workers came to my room and unlocked it to give me the "do not disturb " sign and I was uncomfortable cause how she easily came in even tho the door was locked and didn't knock.

  • Very Good – Ziphelele from South Africa – September 19, 2025 (8/10)

The place was really nice, the staff was kind and i really liked how the cleaners constantly cleaned everyday and also made sure they changed the bedding. The place is in a quiet place, meaning we had no problem with noise during the night

What could be improved: The tv we had in our room was really bad, other rooms had smart TVs and ours was just a cheap chinese tv that didn't even play, if it played the screen was bad we could barely see what's playing

  • Good though very short – Papali from Lesotho – September 16, 2025 (7/10)

Value for money and the proximity to the airport

What could be improved: My room had no chair and no place to hang or put clothes

  • Very good – Pillay from South Africa – September 3, 2025 (8/10)

The place was very clean and tidy. Like a home environment. We felt very comfortable

What could be improved: The wi-fi was very slow. There should be air-conditioning or fans as it is very hot now.

  • Wonderful – Mhlengi from South Africa – August 19, 2025 (9/10)

The place is value for money.
    Quiteness of the area.

    It was very clean
