You know what really surprised me about Poolside Villa? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Randburg where you’d never expect to find such a gem. I mean, Meryl Place isn’t exactly a name that screams luxury accommodation, but honestly – that’s part of what makes this place so special.

Walking into this four-star property, I immediately understood why it has that 9.7 rating. The whole vibe is more like staying at a wealthy friend’s house than a typical hotel, which makes sense given the villa-style setup. The pool area – and yes, it absolutely lives up to the name – becomes this incredible social hub where you’ll find yourself lingering way longer than planned. I actually ended up having some of my best conversations there with other guests, something that rarely happens at bigger hotels. The rooms themselves have this comfortable, lived-in luxury feel, not that sterile perfection you sometimes get. Everything’s spotless, don’t get me wrong, but there’s personality in the details.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area – like, really know it. They pointed me toward this fantastic little restaurant about ten minutes away that I never would’ve found on my own, and gave me the kind of driving directions that actually made sense for someone unfamiliar with Johannesburg’s layout. Parking was never an issue, which honestly is worth mentioning because it can be such a headache elsewhere in the city. The location in Randburg puts you close enough to everything without dealing with the chaos of the city center – you can actually sleep peacefully here. I stayed during what turned out to be a pretty busy week, but the place never felt crowded or rushed. Check-in was smooth, and they had this relaxed approach that immediately put me at ease after a long travel day. If you’re looking for something that feels more personal than your typical hotel chain but still delivers on comfort and service, this place really hits that sweet spot. It’s one of those finds that makes you feel a bit smug about your travel choices, you know?

  Kyle stayed up though we arrived late. Gave us a detailed welcoming tour. Place had a musical touch. nice interior design with owners personal touch. Non-generic. Comes with piano and two pools. One for swimming and a pool table. Learned how to use an air fryer

  I remember looking at the images and thinking it looks too good to be true.
  But to arrive and not be disappointed in the slightest was quite great.
  The staff there gives more than enough information also readily available whenever you need them. It felt so comfortable like we’re been there before

  The location is excellent, very beautiful, very quiet and tranquil. I enjoyed the pool, the pool table, the kitchen space and the hosts responsiveness and attention to detail. The value for money is an understatement. I highly recommend the place and I will certainly be going back.
  
  What could be improved: loadhsedding was the only issue. Kyle(the host), however, mentioned that he is workington backup/off grid solutions.
