Prestige Penthouse in Sandton Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Prestige Penthouse in Sandton, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a three-star place in one of Johannesburg’s priciest neighborhoods. But after staying there twice now (work trips, don’t judge), I can tell you it’s actually a pretty solid choice if you know what you’re getting into.

The location on Grayston Drive is honestly perfect if you’re doing business in Johannesburg. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Sandton City Mall – and I mean actually five minutes, not that travel website nonsense where they claim everything is “just minutes away.” The Gautrain station is right there too, which saved my life when I needed to get to OR Tambo without dealing with traffic. What I really appreciate is that you’re close enough to all the corporate towers and shopping without being right in the thick of the chaos. At night, it’s surprisingly quiet for such a central spot.

The penthouse setup is where this place really shines, honestly. I mean, it’s not going to blow you away with luxury finishes or anything – remember, we’re talking three stars here – but the space is generous and the views are legitimately impressive. You get these floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the Sandton skyline, and in the evening when all the office buildings light up, it’s actually quite beautiful. The kitchen is properly equipped too, which matters if you’re staying for more than a couple days and get tired of restaurant meals. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because, well, the local coffee shops don’t really get going until later anyway. Parking was straightforward both times I stayed – secure underground spot included, no drama with having to circle blocks looking for street parking like you get in some parts of the city. The building itself feels safe and well-maintained, with decent security that’s not overly fussy about visitors or deliveries.

What really sold me on this place is how the staff actually seem to know the area. When I mentioned I needed to find a decent gym nearby, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic list – he told me about Virgin Active at the mall but also mentioned this smaller place a few blocks over that locals prefer. That kind of insight makes a difference when you’re trying to maintain some routine while traveling. Sure, you’ll find fancier places in Sandton, but you’ll pay considerably more for what often amounts to shinier fixtures and a more pretentious lobby. This spot gives you the essentials done well – good location, decent space, reliable service – without the markup that comes with those five-star hotel brands that dominate this part of town.

Reviews of Prestige Penthouse in Sandton

  • Poorly maintained. Far from prestigious. Avoid! – Hudson from South Africa – September 22, 2025 (2/10)

Location is reasonably central and convenient to get into Sandton.

What could be improved: This property seriously needs some love. The name 'prestige' certainly leaves much to be desired. Firstly, small things such as a chip in the floorboard and loose wires were present. Secondly, there was a hole in the main bedroom door that had been 'repaired' with a piece of tape. Thirdly, the bedroom curtains are completely ineffective at blocking out morning sun. Fourthly, the one window was missing a handle and was thus permanently partially open. Lastly, but most frustatratingly, there was not a single adapter plug in the entire apartment. Not even for the lamp next to the bed. How they expect people to use the lamps – I am not sure. In addition, minor things like no hangers and only one kitchen stall were a bit odd. The only upside was the nice view from the balcony, although it was largely filled with 5 litre water bottles for some bizarre reason. Overall, avoid!

  • Terrible decision – Benjamin from Cambodia – August 27, 2025 (2/10)
