R & R’s Retreat Overview
You know what struck me first about R & R’s Retreat? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it really does feel like someone’s well-appointed hideaway rather than your typical hotel setup. Tucked into Parktown North on Sixth Avenue, this three-star spot sits in one of those quieter pockets of Johannesburg where you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main drag to actually get some peace.
I mean, Randburg isn’t exactly where most tourists end up, but honestly, that’s part of what makes this place work. You’re looking at maybe fifteen minutes to get into the city center when traffic’s behaving, and the area itself has this lived-in feel – proper neighborhood cafés, decent grocery stores, the kind of streets where you can actually walk around without constantly looking over your shoulder. The retreat itself feels more like a guesthouse that’s grown up a bit, if that makes sense. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully done – someone clearly spent time thinking about where you’d want to plug in your phone or how much hanging space you actually need. The common areas have this relaxed vibe where guests actually talk to each other, which you don’t always get in bigger places.
What really sold me on the place was the staff’s approach – they know the area inside and out, and I don’t mean just the tourist spots. When I mentioned wanting decent coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, the front desk guy immediately rattled off three local places within walking distance, complete with warnings about which one gets crazy busy on weekends. The breakfast setup is simple but solid (proper bacon, not those sad little strips some places try to pass off), and they’re flexible about timing if you mention you’re heading out early. Parking‘s straightforward too, which honestly matters more than you’d think in Jo’burg. The only thing I’d flag is that rooms facing the street can pick up a bit of morning traffic noise – nothing dramatic, but if you’re a light sleeper, maybe mention it when booking. For the price point and the genuine hospitality, R & R’s Retreat delivers exactly what it promises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
To visit Johannesburg during the vibrant spring season from September to November, travelers should plan ahead as this cosmopolitan city attracts millions of visitors seeking authentic South African experiences and world-class cultural attractions.

Reviews of R & R’s Retreat

Bad – Ronald from Botswana – September 20, 2024 (1/10)
What could be improved: On 12th September 2024, I booked online and paid in advance. However, when I arrived at the property on 14th September 2024, I was informed that my payment had not been received, and I was required to pay again. Could you please clarify what happened on 12th September 2024? Why was my online payment not credited to the supplier?
Secondly, the behavior of the property owner was inappropriate. She shared the house with us, and her dogs would enter our room without permission. She also opened her door while we were in our room. In the morning, she deliberately turned off the tap water, falsely claiming it was due to a South African issue. It was clear from her behavior that she was lying. Her constant visits to our room were intrusive, making us feel so uncomfortable that we ended up undressing in front of her. The experience was shabby and unacceptable.Friendly and helpful host, love the location, restaurants and shops nearby, wonderful accommodation. – Neels from Namibia – May 13, 2024 (10/10)
We were warmly greeted by our host. Carol is super helpful. The rooms are wonderful, clean facilities, it was great for our family. Wifi was also available, great for foreign travellers to stay connected. The area is also beautiful, with many restaurants, cafes and shops within walking distance.
