The kitchen caught me off guard too – it’s not some tiny kitchenette with a broken fridge, but a full setup where you could honestly cook a proper meal if you wanted to. I ended up grabbing groceries from the Woolworths down the road and making breakfast most mornings, which saved me a fortune and felt surprisingly normal after weeks of hotel continental breakfasts.

The location is one of those things that works better in practice than on paper. Sure, you’re not walking distance from Sandton City or anything, but Emerald Boulevard is actually perfectly positioned if you know Johannesburg at all. You’re close enough to the main business districts that an Uber won’t cost you an arm and a leg, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with constant traffic noise or that slightly sketchy vibe some of the central hotels have after dark. The neighborhood feels safe – I saw people jogging in the evenings, which is always a good sign. Parking was never an issue either, which anyone who’s driven in Joburg will tell you is basically a miracle. The staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure everything worked properly, and when the WiFi got spotty one afternoon (happens everywhere in SA, let’s be real), they had someone up to fix it within the hour. With an 8.9 rating, I can see why people keep coming back – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails the things that actually matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two.

  We were well informed and Christian was very quick at answering our messages. There was a well equipped kitchen and the place had a beautiful garden. The complex had a nice cafe and playground.
