The bed was honestly one of the most comfortable I’ve had in South Africa – none of that rock-hard mattress nonsense you sometimes get. And the Wi-Fi? Lightning fast, which matters when you’re trying to get work done or video call family back home.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – the building’s got proper security (essential in this part of town), but it doesn’t feel like you’re living in Fort Knox. The staff actually remember your name after a day or two, which is refreshing. Parking‘s secure and included, thank goodness, because finding street parking around Nelson Mandela Square is basically impossible during business hours. Speaking of location – you’re literally a five-minute walk from all the main shopping and restaurants, but far enough from the Gautrain station that you don’t get the morning rush hour madness. I actually found myself walking to meetings in the nearby office towers, which felt oddly civilized for Johannesburg. The four-star rating feels spot on – it’s not trying to be the Carlton or Saxon (thank goodness for the price difference), but everything works properly and feels well-maintained. My only small gripe? The walls could be a touch thicker – you’ll occasionally hear your neighbors, especially on weekends when people are entertaining. But honestly, for the space you get and the location, it’s brilliant value. I’d definitely stay here again, especially for longer trips when you want to feel settled rather than just passing through.
