I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sandton Gate Luxury Apartments on Minerva Avenue, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name had me thinking it might be one of those overly fancy places that’s all marble and attitude, but it actually turned out to be refreshingly down-to-earth while still being, well, genuinely luxurious.

The thing about staying in Johannesburg is that location really matters, and this four-star spot gets it right. You’re properly in Sandton, which means you can walk to Nelson Mandela Square without dealing with taxis or worrying about safety – something I really appreciated during my stay. The apartments themselves are spacious in a way that makes you forget you’re in a hotel. I mean, there’s an actual kitchen with a full-sized fridge, not those tiny hotel fridges that barely fit a bottle of water. The living area has this comfortable, lived-in feel that doesn’t scream “rental property,” and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in South Africa.

What really won me over though was the staff – they know the area inside and out. When I mentioned wanting good coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, the front desk guy (I think his name was David) sent me to this little place two blocks away that I never would have found on my own. The building itself is quiet, which is no small feat considering you’re in the heart of one of Africa’s busiest business districts. I stayed on the seventh floor and barely heard any street noise, even with the windows open. Parking is sorted – they have secure underground spots, which removes that whole Johannesburg anxiety about leaving your car on the street. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty during peak evening hours, probably because everyone’s streaming Netflix, but it’s perfectly fine for work calls during the day. You know what really impressed me? The attention to small details. Fresh flowers in the lobby that actually get changed regularly, good water pressure in the shower, and they stock the kitchen with decent coffee and tea, not the usual hotel sachets that taste like cardboard. If you’re doing business in Sandton or just want to be close to the action without dealing with the chaos of staying right in the city center, this place strikes the right balance between comfort and convenience.

  The location was absolutely fantastic, we had easy access to Sandton City and Rosebank Mall. We were also not far off from Monte Casino and Gold Reef City as well. The apartment was ideal for our group of four. It was modern, comfortable, and provided what we needed for a wonderful stay.
  
  What could be improved: While the apartment was comfortable and featured modern finishes, there were a few drawbacks that we encountered. Starting with the kitchen, there were no kitchen mats, no drying rack for the dishes and the dining table and chairs were not secure as I found screws that had fallen off. Additionally, there was a noticeable lack of essential detergents, such as washing liquid, which would have made a significant difference. In the bedrooms, the pillows were quite uncomfortable, which affected our overall sleep quality. The drying rack was also too small and should be a little bigger to accommodate one full load of laundry.

  Rooms were nicely decorated,Apartments were stylish & modern with great appliances,They had heaters for the cold weather and the decorations added a nice touch to the place.The building is beautiful and the place is quiet and peaceful.Loved the view of the highway from my room.Place makes u feel at home
  
  What could be improved: I ddnt like how it wasn’t mentioned that there wasn’t any housekeeping and it was disappointing because all the places we had been to had housekeeping and it should have been mentioned before booking.There was a water crisis and bathing water wasn’t available for a while.

  It was in the heart of Sandton which was close to all major malls, restaurants, lounges & etc. The apartment was modern & well maintained too

  What could be improved: I paid for a cleaning service as part of the rate, and no cleaning was done in the 5 nights and days I was there.
  
  Could not access the DSTV streaming service on the TV. They need to include the app, and guests will use their own accounts to sign in.
