Sandton Skye Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sandton Skye on Stan Road, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard three-star setup. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming places are exactly where you stumble onto something decent, and this spot actually surprised me in a few key ways.

The thing about staying in Johannesburg’s Sandton area is that you’re basically in the heart of South Africa’s financial district, which means during the week it’s all suited business types rushing around with their phones glued to their ears, but come weekend it gets surprisingly quiet. The Sandton Skye sits right in this interesting pocket where you’re close enough to walk to Nelson Mandela Square (maybe 10 minutes if you don’t mind the hill), but you’re not dealing with the chaos of being right on Rivonia Road or Sandton Drive. I actually appreciated this – you can sleep without constant traffic noise, but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere either. The rooms themselves are pretty straightforward, nothing fancy but clean and functional. I mean, we’re talking about a mid-range place here, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or anything, but the bed was comfortable enough and the air conditioning worked properly (which honestly matters more than fancy fixtures when you’re dealing with Johannesburg’s summer heat). What I found refreshing was that the staff actually seemed to know the area well – when I asked about getting to OR Tambo without dealing with highway traffic, the front desk guy gave me this detailed alternate route that probably saved me 30 minutes.

Here’s what really worked for me though: the breakfast setup was better than expected, and they don’t rush you out if you want to sit and actually read the paper for a bit. Plus, there’s decent parking right there, which anyone who’s tried to park in central Sandton will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The location puts you within walking distance of some solid restaurants too – there’s this Ethiopian place about five minutes away that locals go to, not just tourists. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the elevator makes this slightly concerning groaning sound, but for the price point and the fact that you’re staying in one of Africa’s major business hubs, the Sandton Skye does what it needs to do without any real complaints from me.

    The Property is located in a well sought after place, its easy to access. The check in is seamless. The apartment is very clean, smell nice and fresh, warm. Linen is topnotch and the bed is so big and comfortable.

    Location was perfect. The Codfather restaurant is downstairs and easily accessible. Great view of the Sandton skyline. Seamless access as security verifies your authenticity. Fast communication with the host.
