I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sandton Slippers on Arohnson Road, I wasn’t expecting much from the name alone. But you know what? Sometimes the most understated places surprise you the most. This four-star gem sits tucked away in Lyme Park Extension 4, which is actually perfect if you want to avoid the madness of central Johannesburg while still being close enough to matter.

The thing about this area is that it’s properly residential – you’re not dealing with taxis hooting all night or street vendors starting up at 5 AM. I mean, you can actually sleep here, which sounds basic but trust me, it’s not always guaranteed in Joburg. The staff genuinely seemed to care when I checked in, not that rushed politeness you get at bigger chains. They knew the neighborhood well enough to point out a decent coffee spot about two blocks over that I never would have found otherwise. The rooms themselves feel more like someone’s really well-appointed guest suite than a hotel room – there’s attention to detail in the furnishings that you notice gradually. Good water pressure in the shower too, which honestly can make or break a stay for me.

What really won me over was how they’ve managed to nail that balance between being professional and actually comfortable. The common areas don’t feel like a lobby where you’re just passing through – there are corners where you’d actually want to sit and work or just hang out. Parking was straightforward, which anyone who’s driven around Johannesburg will appreciate more than tourists might realize. The 9.4 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there a day or two. It’s not flashy or trying to impress you with marble everything, but it gets all the important stuff right. I ended up extending my stay by a night just because I wasn’t ready to deal with the chaos of moving again. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels more like staying with friends who happen to have impeccable taste than a typical hotel experience, this place delivers without making a big show about it.

  Breakfast was delicious prepared to my specifications and the ambience is also warm and relaxed, with views of the beautiful garden! The location is superb, a quiet, beautiful and safe location.
