I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sandton Spring Rivonia on Stiglingh Road, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The area’s sort of tucked away in Rivonia, which actually turned out to be one of its biggest advantages. You’re close enough to Sandton’s business district that you can practically feel the energy, but far enough away that you don’t hear the constant hum of traffic at night.

What really struck me about this four-star property is how they’ve managed to create this surprisingly serene atmosphere despite being in the heart of Johannesburg’s commercial zone. The moment you walk through the entrance, there’s this immediate sense of calm – maybe it’s the way they’ve designed the lobby with all that natural light, or how the staff genuinely seems happy to see you rather than just going through the motions. The check-in was refreshingly quick, and I mean that in the best way possible. No endless forms or upselling attempts, just “here’s your room, here’s what you need to know.”

The rooms themselves feel more spacious than you’d expect, and honestly, the beds are fantastic – I’m usually a light sleeper, but I slept like a rock every night. You know what’s nice? They’ve actually thought about the little things that business travelers need. Plenty of outlets near the desk area, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out during video calls, and blackout curtains that actually work. The bathrooms are well-appointed without being over the top, though I will say the water pressure is excellent, which you can’t always count on. From my room, I had a decent view of the surrounding area – nothing spectacular, but you get a real sense of how this part of Johannesburg operates, with its mix of residential and commercial spaces.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned if you need to get around the greater Sandton area. Rivonia Road is right there, so accessing the highways is straightforward, and parking was never an issue – they have a proper secure garage, which honestly gives you peace of mind. The neighborhood itself has character; there are some solid restaurants within walking distance, and if you’re up for a short drive, you can easily reach Sandton City or Nelson Mandela Square. I found myself appreciating how local it felt compared to some of the bigger chain hotels that can feel like they could be anywhere in the world. The staff clearly knows the area well – they gave me spot-on recommendations for everything from where to grab good coffee early in the morning to which routes to avoid during rush hour. It’s that kind of local knowledge that makes a real difference when you’re trying to navigate a city efficiently.
