I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sandton’s Finest 2BR/2BA on Minerva Avenue, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But this four-star apartment-style place really surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes these extended-stay spots can feel a bit sterile? Well, this one actually feels like someone put thought into making it livable.

The location is what really sold me though. I mean, you’re right in the heart of Johannesburg’s business district, but Minerva Avenue itself is surprisingly quiet – especially compared to the chaos you’ll find just a few blocks over near Sandton City. I could actually sleep with the windows cracked open, which is saying something for this area. The two-bedroom setup worked perfectly for my longer stay, and honestly, having two full bathrooms was a game-changer when I had colleagues staying over. The kitchen isn’t huge, but it’s got everything you’d actually use – proper pots and pans, not those flimsy things you usually get. I ended up cooking way more than I planned because grabbing groceries from the Woolworths down the street was so easy.

What I really appreciated were the little details that showed someone actually thinks about what travelers need. The Wi-Fi is solid (I was doing video calls without issues), there’s decent parking – which anyone who’s tried to park in Sandton will tell you is worth its weight in gold – and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. The building itself feels secure without being fortress-like, if that makes sense. Look, it’s not going to blow you away with luxury touches, and the 7.3 rating reflects that it’s good rather than spectacular. But sometimes good is exactly what you want, especially when you’re dealing with the usual travel stress and just need a place that works properly. The apartment felt clean and well-maintained, the air conditioning actually cooled things down (crucial during those sweltering Joburg summers), and I never had to call the front desk with problems. For business travelers or anyone planning a longer stay in the area, this place delivers on the practical stuff that actually matters when you’re trying to get things done.

  What could be improved: The property is in dilapidated condition and no one should be allowed to stay there. Paint is peeling off the walls in the bathroom. There’s mold on the walls in the kitchen and there’s an animal living in the ceiling that’s trying to get out through the bathroom vents. This property needs to be taken off bookings because it’s unsafe. The beds had bugs under the covers as well. I didn’t stay inside at all. Completely waste of my money. I had to book another room because it was so bad. I want my money back because this was a scam for sure!

  What could be improved: The shower door was broken and could not be closed, so the water just flowed out on the floor of the bathroom, which was annoying. Nothing has been done to fix it during our six days there.
  Also we had to ask and wait 3 days to get the remote for the parking doors, had to find and ask the security agent to open each time we got in and out.
