Semeni Asante Guesthouse Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Semeni Asante Guesthouse on Limerick Road – honestly, the neighborhood’s pretty residential and quiet, which turned out to be exactly what I needed after dealing with Johannesburg’s crazy traffic all day. This three-star spot sits in what locals call the Observatory area, and I mean, it’s not flashy or anything, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place that hits you right when you walk in.
The owners – and I’m pretty sure they actually live on the property – have this way of making you feel like you’re staying with family rather than just checking into another generic guesthouse. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough, though don’t expect luxury here. What really works is the attention to detail – fresh flowers in the common areas, proper coffee (not that instant stuff), and they actually remember your name after the first day. The Wi-Fi’s solid, which matters if you’re trying to get work done, and parking‘s right there on the property, which is honestly a huge relief in this part of town. I stayed during the winter months when Joburg gets those crisp, clear days, and the guesthouse has this cozy feeling with enough natural light streaming through the windows.
Here’s the thing about the location that took me a while to appreciate – you’re actually in a really authentic part of the city. Sure, you’re not walking distance to the major tourist spots, but you get a real sense of how people actually live here. There’s a proper local café about two blocks down where the coffee’s better than most hotel restaurants, and the nearby streets have that lived-in feel without being sketchy. The staff knows the area well too, so they can point you toward the good local spots rather than just the obvious tourist traps. I’ll be honest, the rooms could use some updating – the décor’s a bit dated and some of the fixtures show their age – but everything works, it’s spotlessly clean, and the beds are actually comfortable. Plus, for what you pay, you’re getting genuine hospitality in a city where that’s not always easy to find. It’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with other guests over breakfast and actually exchanging contact information because everyone’s relaxed and friendly.
Best attractions in Johannesburg range from the historic Gold Reef City theme park to the trendy Maboneng Precinct and elegant venues overlooking the sprawling cityscape and Constitution Hill.

The room was clean, the pool and the yard in general was very neat.
The area was also quiet, it exceeded my expectations.
The lady at reception was also very friendly and welcoming.
What could be improved: The shower curtain spilled water on the floor.
We were not issued with a Wi-Fi password.Very Good – Bongi from South Africa – September 9, 2024 (8/10)
Staff were amazing, property was comfortable and had a great service.

I really liked the place. Expected the worst because of the reviews but it was quite decent. The staff is super friendly. Precious ensured our stay there was comfortable and that we had everything we need. Loved her. Only thing is there is no pool it was at another house that belonged to them. You can go there if you wanted to swim though no big deal. We were good cause there was a nice place to chill and braai.
Good – Raheema from South Africa – June 3, 2024 (7/10)
Excellent service and friendly staff
What could be improved: The water issue was a bit of a downer.Overall our stay was good for the price we paid. – Eliz-marie from South Africa – February 5, 2024 (8/10)
It was close to the FNB stadium. It was clean and safe.
What could be improved: Not all parkings had shade. The aircon didn’t work and there was no extra toilet paper. The wifi didn’t work. And it was difficult to do your hair and makeup since there is no mirror close to a power outlet. It was very clean, they have a backup during loadshadin., – Muila from South Africa – September 7, 2023 (7/10)
Our plans was to have breakfast there every morning , but breakfast was never there.
What could be improved: When we get there, the lady didn't know about our booking which we did weeks before, she was not familiar with booking. Com.
She was confused to a point where she ended up given us a room which we didn't book for. When calling the guesthouse the receptionist does not announce the name of the guesthouse. I had to ask which place it w – Melissa from South Africa – July 12, 2023 (7/10)
Close to Gold Reef City so it was easy to find.
The room had most of the standard amenities.
What could be improved: The electric blanket did not work and it was freezing cold. The wall heater alleviated the cold – a bit. The booking stated we could order dinner and breakfast however when we ordered she said there was no meat – as in, there was no food to order. Was worth the money – Nathania from South Africa – February 23, 2023 (6/10)
Was very relaxing pity loadshedding could not use the jacuzzi
Pleasant – Lindiwe from South Africa – February 16, 2023 (6/10)
I liked the service
What could be improved: The private bathroom we got was like nothing they showed on google
