Solo or couples studio in the heart of Maboneng Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Solo or couples studio in the heart of Maboneng, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, you know? But stepping into this four-star studio on the 4th floor of the Maboneng Lifestyle Centre completely changed my perspective on what urban accommodation in Johannesburg could be.

The thing about Maboneng is that it’s this incredible creative bubble in downtown Joburg – honestly, it feels like you’re in a completely different city once you’re walking around Fox Street. This studio sits right in the thick of it all, and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re literally surrounded by art galleries, quirky coffee shops, and some of the most interesting street art I’ve seen anywhere. The building itself has that converted industrial feel that works so well here – exposed brick, high ceilings, the whole deal. What really struck me was how quiet it actually gets at night, despite being in such a buzzing area. The soundproofing is surprisingly good, which honestly saved my sleep more than once.

The studio space itself is smartly designed – they’ve really maximized every square meter without making it feel cramped. The kitchenette has everything you actually need (not just the basics), and there’s this great little seating area by the window where you can watch the street life below with your morning coffee. I spent way too much time people-watching from up there, if I’m being honest. The bathroom’s compact but well-thought-out, and the shower pressure is actually decent – something you can’t always count on in converted buildings like this. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details: proper blackout curtains, enough power outlets where you need them, and storage that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. The WiFi was solid too, which matters when you’re trying to stay connected or get some work done. Parking can be a bit tricky around here – I’d recommend asking about the secure options nearby because street parking isn’t something I’d chance overnight in this area. The building’s security feels tight though, which gives you peace of mind when you’re coming and going, especially if you’re exploring the nightlife scene that Maboneng is known for. Location-wise, you’re walking distance from Market Theatre, Arts on Main, and some fantastic restaurants that most tourists never find. It’s the kind of place that works whether you’re here for business, a romantic getaway, or just want to experience Johannesburg from a local’s perspective rather than the usual hotel district routine.

  • Exceptional – Siyabonga from South Africa – August 27, 2025 (10/10)

  • Fair – Lerato from South Africa – August 4, 2025 (5/10)

    the unit was very clean

What could be improved: Hardly got any sleep the next night, the noise from next door was insane, the building is not the best

  • Wonderful – Luyanda from South Africa – July 27, 2025 (9/10)

  • Quiet inside and vibes outside. – Adérito from Mozambique – July 21, 2025 (9/10)

Very well located, in the thick and heart of Maboneng, the vibe places were all just in front or around the corner. Had loads of fun. The Decoration of the room with its industrial meets art deco vibes was very good. the cutlery and glassware were of quality. The space was super safe. Nice security guard.

What could be improved: The bathroom curtain was torn and this is a quick and easy under r100 fix. The shower allows water to drench the floor. A simple raise of the edge of the shower would sort this in an instant or maybe the installation of shower box.
During our stay there was no elevator and going up and down 4 floors with luggage and other stuff was hectic. But hey, got some exercise out of it.

  • It was a lovely stay. – Ndaba from South Africa – February 16, 2025 (10/10)

I mostly liked the room and setup of the apartment. I was quite sceptical when I first arrived because it’s quite a busy area but I’m quite happy and satisfied with the room.

What could be improved: The building needs renovation but the room I was in was quite nice

  • Very Good – Nikki from United Kingdom – February 7, 2025 (8/10)

  • It was tooo goood !!! – Matlotlo from South Africa – December 31, 2024 (10/10)

The location was very busy but ii enjoyed being thereee with my man

What could be improved: They said tissue would be provided but there wasn’t any

  • Relaxing and Very Peaceful – Zolani from South Africa – December 27, 2024 (10/10)

The decor is beautiful and even the colour palette of the furniture is beautiful I loved the kitchen. It has everything you need no joke and it is so modern. I also found a book I’ve been wanting to read for a long time “the subtle art of not giving a ****” and so that completely impressed me. Honestly beautiful space. It didn’t matter what wasn’t right all the other small things people fuss about where negligible.

What could be improved: Need an air-con it does get a bit hot but they communicated that they are in the process of getting it so hopefully they do keep to their word
