I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Soul View Studio Apartment on Dungarvan Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a fairly standard residential building. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the outside.

This four-star spot sits in a quiet pocket of Johannesburg that actually feels residential rather than touristy, which I mean, can be refreshing when you’re tired of hotel districts. The studio itself is surprisingly well thought out – and I say surprisingly because let’s face it, most apartment-style accommodations cut corners somewhere. Here though, whoever designed this space actually gets how people live. The kitchen isn’t just for show (there’s proper counter space and decent appliances), and the sleeping area doesn’t feel like an afterthought crammed into a corner. The whole place has this clean, modern vibe without being sterile, if that makes sense.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail that you don’t usually get with short-term rentals. Fresh linens that actually smell good, decent water pressure in the shower, and – this might sound small but trust me it matters – proper blackout curtains that actually block light. I’ve stayed in too many places where you’re wide awake at 5 AM because someone forgot that people like to sleep in on vacation. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which matters more than it should these days. Parking was straightforward enough, though you’ll want to ask about the specific arrangements when you book since it’s not immediately obvious where guests are supposed to leave their cars. The neighborhood itself is pretty quiet, especially in the evenings – I could hear some traffic from the main roads but nothing that kept me up at night. You’re close enough to get into the city center without much fuss, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and chaos. There are a few local spots within walking distance if you need basics, though you’ll probably want to venture further for proper dining options. Check-in was smooth – the host was responsive and clear about everything, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re figuring out a new place. The 9.7 rating makes sense once you spend a night here; it’s one of those places that just works without any drama or unpleasant surprises.

  I was in Joburg for an event at NASREC Expo Centre and was looking for accommodation in a residential and safe area. I also wanted to be close to the venue because I had to make multiple trips to and from NASREC on event day.
  Being only 7km/12 minutes' drive away made it the perfect place for me to stay.

  The host Jann was extremely welcoming and ensured that we were comfortable during our stay at Soul View. Jann also provided us with a complimentary bottle of wine to get the our break-away going. Despite it being in a residential area, the mountainous views provide a sense of tranquility and peace, an escape from civilization. There are various shops nearby for your daily needs.
  The place was extremely clean and it is evident that a lot of thought went into the utilization of the space, which is beautifully decorated, with an open plan feel.
  I will definitely be returning to Soul View and would recommend it to anyone who needs a break from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives.
