You know what really struck me about Springbank Guest Suite when I first pulled up to 27 Roxburghe Avenue? It’s one of those places that feels like you’re staying at a friend’s well-appointed home rather than a typical hotel. Craighall Park has this lovely residential vibe – tree-lined streets, proper gardens, the kind of neighborhood where you actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic. I mean, you’re still in Johannesburg, so there’s definitely urban energy around, but this little pocket feels refreshingly calm.

The suite itself honestly exceeded what I expected from a three-star place. The space is generous – and I’m talking about real space, not that cramped “efficiently designed” nonsense you get elsewhere. There’s a proper sitting area where you can actually spread out with your laptop or just relax with a book, plus a kitchenette that’s genuinely useful if you want to grab groceries and make breakfast instead of eating out every meal. The bed was comfortable (always my biggest concern), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works properly. Small thing, but you know how frustrating it is when hotels cheap out on water pressure.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Roxburghe Avenue isn’t a main thoroughfare, so you don’t get that constant hum of traffic that can drive you crazy in central Johannesburg. Parking was straightforward too, which honestly can make or break a stay when you’re dealing with the city center alternatives. The staff were helpful without being overly chatty, and check-in was refreshingly efficient. I’ve stayed in fancier places that felt more sterile, if that makes sense. This felt like somewhere you could actually settle in for a few days and get into a rhythm. The 9.1 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without any unnecessary fuss.

  I had a wonderful and peaceful stay. The hosts were super friendly, generous and helpful. They assisted me with navigating and also provided great conversation. The gardens around the home are beautiful and the room was well appointed and clean. I highly recommend this place!

  My stay in Springbank was perfect for relaxation and planning my ongoing journey. Robert and Monica are wonderful hosts who willingly shared their knowledge of South Africa and the area. I enjoyed my conversations with them and their kindness. The area is very safe, leafy and nice to walk in. There is a Spar within walking distance.

  Springbank Cottage is located in lush garden surroundings and is very centrally located for access to Johannesburg's northern suburbs – Sandton and Rosebank in particular. The hosts were charming and welcoming and made us feel totally at home, treating us like friends. The cottage itself is attached to the house but with its own entrance. It is very secure and extremely well equipped. There is a living area with double bed and kitchenette and a separate bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. There was a good supply of hot water available throughout the time we were there. There is secure parking right in front of the house and cottage. We stayed for five nights and slept comfortably.
  
  What could be improved: There was good wi-fi but the connectivity was a bit unreliable and we had the internet drop a number of times. Robert reacted immediately when we pointed out an issue so it wasn't a biggie. The other slight inconvenience was the low pressure in the shower due to flow restriction. We could get good pressure or hot water but it was difficult to get a decent flow of water when the tap was set to hot. Again it was not a big issue but the weather was cool and a good flow of hotter water would have been nice. These were minor issues and I would still strongly recommend Springbank as a great place to stay over.

  Lovely room with kitchen and large shower. Host were very kind & welcoming. Thanks Monica & Ross. Also relaxing garden to sit in if you wish. I also liked the location which was quite and peaceful. Supermarket within walking distance if needed and restaurants nearby if required.
