You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Strawberry Fields Country Manor Guest House on Zinnia Road – the name sounds almost too whimsical to be real. But honestly, this place completely surprised me in the best possible way. Tucked away in Kyalami (which, if you’re not familiar with Johannesburg, is this lovely area that feels worlds away from the city hustle), it’s positioned perfectly between Galanthus and Cactus Road, though I’ll admit I got a bit turned around the first time trying to find it among all these flower-named streets.

What really struck me about this four-star gem is how it manages to feel both polished and genuinely homey at the same time. The manor itself has this wonderful character – you can tell someone actually cares about the details here rather than just ticking hospitality boxes. The rooms are spacious in that satisfying way where you can actually unpack without playing furniture Tetris, and the beds… well, let’s just say I may have snoozed my alarm more than once. I mean, the whole property has this peaceful, almost countryside vibe that makes you forget you’re still technically in the greater Joburg area. The gardens are particularly lovely – clearly someone with actual gardening skills tends to them, not just a landscaping service that shows up monthly.

Actually, what I appreciated most was how quiet it gets here, especially in the evenings. You’re close enough to civilization that you’re not completely cut off, but far enough from the main roads that you don’t have traffic noise keeping you up. Parking was never an issue either, which honestly can’t be said for a lot of places in this area. The staff seemed to genuinely enjoy working there too – always a good sign in my experience. It’s the kind of place where you could easily extend your stay an extra night just because you’re not quite ready to dive back into city life. Perfect for anyone who wants to explore Johannesburg but needs a proper retreat to come back to at the end of the day.

  A beautiful, tranquil environment, if you need time away this is the place to go, amazing and helpful staff, room is equipped with a mini fridge and kettle which is a plus for me, bathroom and room is clean, daily housekeeping, perfect to get in touch with nature and just unwind, I will definitely be going back
  
  What could be improved: Just carry a tin of bug spray…. Just a bit inconvenient to warm food up because you need to go to the main kitchen, other than that my stay was magical
