I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Stunning, Modern 1 bedroom Apartment Sandton, I rolled my eyes a bit. Hotels calling themselves “stunning” always makes me skeptical, you know? But after spending a few nights at this four-star spot on 11th Avenue in Rivonia, I actually get why they went with that name. The place genuinely surprised me in the best way possible.

What struck me first was how quiet it is, considering you’re basically in the heart of Johannesburg’s business district. I mean, Rivonia Road can get pretty hectic during rush hour, but once you’re inside, there’s this unexpected calm that settles over everything. The apartment itself feels more like staying at a well-designed friend’s place than a typical hotel room – and I say that as someone who’s stayed in way too many corporate boxes over the years. The kitchen actually works (I made proper coffee every morning), the bed doesn’t have that weird hotel smell, and honestly, the shower pressure is better than what I have at home. There’s something refreshing about having space to spread out your stuff without everything feeling cramped or sterile.

The location is what really sells it for me, though. You’re a quick walk to Sandton City if you need to do some shopping or grab dinner somewhere decent, but you’re not dealing with all that Sandton CBD madness right outside your window. I found myself using the Gautrain quite a bit – the Sandton station is close enough that you don’t need an Uber every time you want to get around, which saves you a decent amount of money if you’re staying more than a couple nights. What I really appreciated was being able to walk to places like Nelson Mandela Square without it being a whole production, but still having that residential feel when you want to just chill out. The parking situation is actually sorted, which – if you’ve ever tried to park in Sandton during the day – you’ll know is worth its weight in gold. I did notice the area gets pretty quiet after business hours, which some people might find a bit too sleepy, but for me it was perfect for getting proper rest between meetings. The whole setup just works really well if you want to be close to everything Sandton offers without feeling like you’re sleeping in the middle of a shopping mall.
