I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Tamryn Manor Guest House on Impala Road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this three-star spot. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that surprise you, and this place definitely falls into that category.

The manor itself has this lovely old-world charm that immediately puts you at ease – think wraparound verandas and that classic South African hospitality that makes you feel like you’re staying with family rather than just checking into another hotel. The rooms are honestly more spacious than I anticipated, with those high ceilings that keep things cool even during Johannesburg’s warmer months. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, which isn’t always a given in this part of the city. The garden area is actually quite beautiful – I found myself having my morning coffee out there more often than not, watching the local birds and just taking in that peaceful atmosphere before heading into the busier parts of town.

Location-wise, you’re positioned really well here. I mean, you’re not right in the heart of Sandton or anything, but that’s actually part of the appeal – you get that residential feel while still being close enough to everything that matters. The nearby area has some solid local restaurants that the staff are happy to point you toward (and trust me, their recommendations are spot-on), plus you’re not dealing with the tourist trap pricing you’d find closer to the main hotel districts. Parking was never an issue, which anyone who’s spent time in Joburg will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The staff here really make the difference though – they know the area inside and out, and they’ll give you the kind of local insights you just can’t get from a guidebook. Whether you need directions to avoid traffic or want to know where locals actually go for good food, they’ve got you covered with genuine enthusiasm.
