I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to The Apex Rosebank – Building with generator on Hood Avenue, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name’s a bit of a mouthful, and that “building with generator” part had me wondering if I was in for some construction noise. But you know what? This four-star spot actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying in Johannesburg is that location really makes or breaks your experience, and this place gets it right. Rosebank is honestly one of those neighborhoods where you can actually walk around without constantly looking over your shoulder – which, let’s face it, matters a lot in Jo’burg. The hotel sits right in the thick of things, maybe a five-minute stroll from the Gautrain station, which is clutch if you’re flying in and out of OR Tambo. I mean, who wants to deal with taxi drama when you can just hop on the train? The Rosebank Mall is practically next door too, and while it’s not the fanciest shopping center in the city, it’s got everything you need – decent restaurants, a Pick n Pay for snacks, and that reliable old Mugg & Bean if you’re craving something familiar.

What I really appreciated about this place was how it felt… well, unpretentious. The lobby’s got this modern-but-not-trying-too-hard vibe, and the staff actually seemed to know what they were doing at check-in (always a relief). My room was on the seventh floor, and honestly, the view over the Rosebank skyline wasn’t half bad – you can see all the way to Sandton’s glittery towers in the distance. The generator thing that’s mentioned in the name? I was worried about noise, but turns out it’s just there for backup power during load shedding. Smart move, actually – nothing worse than being stuck in a hotel elevator when Eskom decides to flip the switch. The rooms themselves are solid without being flashy. Good Wi-Fi, proper air conditioning (essential during those sweltering highveld summers), and beds that don’t make you miss your own mattress too much. The bathroom’s got one of those rainfall showerheads that actually has decent pressure, which is honestly more than you can say for a lot of places around here. If I had to nitpick, the walls could be a bit thicker – I could hear my neighbor’s TV one night, but it wasn’t terrible. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re getting honest value for your money, especially with that 8.8 rating making sense once you’ve actually stayed there.

  The rooms were comfy and the 2 bathrooms perfect. The balcony was terrific and the fully furnished apartment a delight. It felt like a home away from home. Very safe and secure.
  
  What could be improved: The only gripe i have is the managing agents means of contact. Hostaway seems to be online and its impossible to speak to a person. Its always different people and only on WhatssApp. No calls only WhatsApp messages.

  The property was immaculately maintained, with spotless interiors and a welcoming atmosphere. Its prime location offered convenient access to local amenities and attractions, making it an ideal choice for visitors.
  
  What could be improved: When we first arrived, the couch had a slight dampness to it, a lingering chill from the room's humidity. Over time, however, it seemed to absorb the warmth of our presence, gradually drying out and becoming more comfortable, inviting us to sink into its embrace.
