I’ll be honest – when I first walked into The Bolton Apartment, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from a serviced apartment situation, but this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on Sturdee Avenue in Johannesburg’s Rosebank area, and you know what? The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the chaos of the city center. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Gautrain station (which, trust me, is a game-changer for getting to OR Tambo), and the Rosebank Mall is right there when you need anything from groceries to a proper dinner.

The apartment itself feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a hotel – I mean that in the best possible way. The four-star rating makes sense when you see the attention to detail: the kitchen actually has everything you need (not just a sad little kettle), the living space is generous enough that you don’t feel cramped after a long day, and honestly, the bed situation is solid. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re in one of Joburg’s busier neighborhoods. The building has decent security too, which matters more here than in some places – there’s proper access control and parking is sorted, so you’re not wandering around dark streets with your luggage. The staff know their stuff about the area as well; they pointed me toward some local spots I never would have found otherwise, including this incredible Ethiopian place just down the road that doesn’t even have a proper sign.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t your typical hotel experience, and that’s actually why it works so well. You’ve got the independence to come and go as you please, cook your own breakfast if you want (the nearby Woolworths has everything), but you also have housekeeping and proper service when you need it. The whole setup makes sense for longer stays, but even for a few nights, it beats cramming into a standard hotel room. Plus, being in Rosebank means you’re connected to everything – the business district, the cultural spots in Maboneng, even day trips to Soweto are totally doable. I’d definitely stay here again, especially knowing now how easy it is to navigate the neighborhood and how much more space you get for your money compared to the big chain hotels downtown.

  Central location in Rosebank and very close to Rosebank Mall and restaurants etc. Very secure. The heated blanket kept me toasty on the cold nights as well as the heater in the leaving room. The washing machine which has a drying function was also handy. The hosts communications was also top notch.
