I’ll be honest – when I first heard about The Cube Apartment Sandton, I was skeptical about staying in what’s essentially a residential complex rather than a traditional hotel. But you know what? Sometimes being wrong feels pretty great. This four-star setup in Rivonia turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I needed during my time in Johannesburg.

The thing about The Cube is that it sits in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to Sandton’s business district to actually walk there (well, if you don’t mind a decent stroll), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant hum of traffic and construction that seems to follow that area around. I mean, Rivonia Road can get busy during rush hour, but the complex itself is set back enough that you’re not really bothered by it. What I really appreciated was how the apartment-style rooms give you this sense of actually living somewhere rather than just passing through – there’s a proper kitchen, which honestly saved me a fortune on room service, and the living areas are spacious enough that I could spread out my work stuff without feeling cramped.

The staff here actually know what they’re doing, which you don’t always get with these hybrid hotel-apartment places. Check-in was smooth, and when I had an issue with the Wi-Fi (because of course I did), they sorted it out within the hour rather than giving me the runaround. The amenities are solid too – there’s a gym that’s better equipped than I expected, and the pool area becomes this surprisingly social spot in the evenings. I ended up chatting with a few other guests there, including a family from Cape Town who gave me some great restaurant recommendations for the area. Speaking of food, you’re walking distance from some excellent spots along Rivonia Road, and if you’re feeling adventurous, the taxi rides to Melrose Arch or even Rosebank aren’t too painful. The security is tight without being intrusive – important when you’re in Joburg – and parking is actually included, which anyone who’s tried to park in Sandton will tell you is worth its weight in gold. With a 9.1 rating, I can see why people keep coming back here. It’s one of those places that just works, you know?

  I recently stayed at Mahloti’s place for the weekend and had a really enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived, the security team made everything easy – they were friendly, helpful, and even assisted with our Uber Eats deliveries, which was a nice touch.
  
  The apartment itself was clean, smelled great, and had all the essentials plus a few extra touches that made the stay even more comfortable. Mahloti was incredibly responsive throughout, which made things smooth and stress-free.
  
  What could be improved: There was an issue with the water and geyser due to the building’s boiler not functioning, but Mahloti went out of her way to bring us water to get by – even though the situation was completely out of her control. That effort meant a lot and showed great hospitality.
