I’ll be honest – when I first walked into The Emerald 42, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another business hotel in Sandton. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in all the right ways. The lobby has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me” but somehow makes you feel like you’ve stepped up a notch from the usual corporate cookie-cutter spots scattered around Johannesburg’s financial district.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely get what travelers need – I mean, they had my room ready at 2 PM without me even asking about early check-in, and the guy at the front desk actually knew which restaurants were worth walking to versus the tourist traps. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid four-star property, but with these little touches that matter when you’re jet-lagged and cranky. The blackout curtains actually work (rare!), the shower pressure is fantastic, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The beds are properly firm too – none of that sinking-into-quicksand nonsense you get at some places.

Location-wise, you’re right in the thick of Sandton’s business hub on 6th Road, which sounds intimidating but is actually pretty convenient. Nelson Mandela Square is literally a five-minute walk if you want to grab dinner somewhere decent, and honestly, the Gautrain station is close enough that you don’t need to stress about airport transfers. The area can get a bit quiet on weekends – I mean, it’s a financial district, so don’t expect buzzing nightlife right outside your door – but that also means you’ll sleep well during the week when other hotels in the area are dealing with traffic noise. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Sandton will appreciate. I stayed here during a particularly busy conference season, and while the hotel was full, it never felt chaotic or overwhelmed. The restaurant serves up solid food (their breakfast spread is actually worth getting up for), and the service throughout felt professional without being stuffy. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with flashy amenities or Instagram-worthy rooftop pools, but sometimes you just want a place that does the fundamentals really well – and The Emerald 42 delivers on that promise.

  The place itself was very beautiful and clean,spacious to,location was good too.A very cute apartment indeed
  
  What could be improved: The check in process, we struggled with checking in and accessing the apartment everytime we went out.At some point we had to wait in the cold till the security guys let us in seeing we were freezing. The 3 days we booked we struggled with access till the last day.The property owners were not helpful at all.over and above that we were promised one complimentary cleaning which was not fullfilled.despite the place being beautiful I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

  And offers the most beautiful part of Jozi,
  Though the Property host or agent
  Propr, was very disappointing
