Walking into The Emerald 42, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical Sandton business hotel. The four-star property sits quietly on 6th Road, and honestly, that’s part of its charm — you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main drag to actually get some peace. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels more like a well-appointed residence than a corporate hotel, which makes sense given how popular it is with couples looking for a romantic getaway in the city.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about the location — you’re in Sandton, so you’ve got all the shopping and dining you could want, but you’re not stuck in the middle of the chaos around Sandton City Mall. The hotel’s position on 6th Road means you can walk to some excellent restaurants (there’s a fantastic sushi place just two blocks away), and getting to the Gautrain station takes maybe five minutes by car. What really sold me though was the free private parking — anyone who’s tried to park in Sandton knows this is basically gold. You know what’s even better? The area feels safe to walk around during the day, which isn’t something you can say about every part of Johannesburg.

The Rooms

The rooms at The Emerald 42 strike that perfect balance between modern and cozy. I mean, you’ve got all the tech you need — decent WiFi, multiple charging points, a smart TV — but it doesn’t feel cold or sterile. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are well-designed with proper water pressure in the shower. The windows are large enough to let in plenty of natural light, and if you’re lucky enough to get a room facing away from the road, it’s surprisingly quiet for being in the heart of Sandton.

Service & Amenities

The staff here actually seem to care, which is refreshing. They remember your name after the first day, and they’re genuinely helpful with recommendations — not just the touristy stuff, but real local insights. The hotel might not have a massive spa or multiple restaurants, but what they do have works well. There’s a decent fitness center that’s never crowded, and the business facilities are solid if you need to get work done. The breakfast is better than expected too — fresh ingredients, good coffee, and they don’t try to do too much (sometimes simple done well beats elaborate done poorly).

Look, The Emerald 42 gets an 8.5 rating because it delivers on what matters most — comfort, location, and genuine hospitality. Couples especially seem to appreciate the intimate atmosphere and the fact that you can have a proper city break without feeling like you’re staying in a soulless business hotel. The combination of being in Sandton’s heart while maintaining that boutique feel is rare, and the free parking honestly makes everything so much easier. It’s the kind of place where you’d happily stay again, and that says everything you need to know.

  The place itself was very beautiful and clean,spacious to,location was good too.A very cute apartment indeed
  
  What could be improved: The check in process, we struggled with checking in and accessing the apartment everytime we went out.At some point we had to wait in the cold till the security guys let us in seeing we were freezing. The 3 days we booked we struggled with access till the last day.The property owners were not helpful at all.over and above that we were promised one complimentary cleaning which was not fullfilled.despite the place being beautiful I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

  And offers the most beautiful part of Jozi,
  Though the Property host or agent
  Propr, was very disappointing
