The thing about staying in Strijdompark is that you’re actually in a really sweet spot that most visitors to Johannesburg completely miss. You’ve got all the convenience of being close to the city center, but you’re tucked away in this residential area where you can actually hear yourself think at night. I stayed here during a pretty busy work trip, and after dealing with the chaos of Jo’burg traffic all day, coming back to this quiet neighborhood felt like finding a hidden pocket of sanity. The staff – and I’m not just saying this – they actually remember your name after the first day, which is refreshing when you’re used to those big chain places where you’re just another room number.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail in the rooms. Nothing fancy, but everything’s been thought through by someone who clearly travels themselves. The shower pressure is actually decent (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and they’ve got these thick curtains that block out the early morning sun completely. The beds are proper comfortable too – I’m pretty picky about mattresses, and I slept better here than I have at places costing twice as much. Plus, there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without tripping over your suitcase every time you want to use the bathroom. You can tell they’ve had business travelers in mind when they designed these rooms, with plenty of outlets and a desk that’s actually usable for getting work done. Parking was never an issue either, which honestly can make or break a stay when you’re dealing with Johannesburg’s parking nightmare. At 7.9 out of 10, it’s hitting that sweet spot where you’re getting solid value without any of the pretension you sometimes find at pricier spots in Sandton or Rosebank.

  I liked that the staff was friendly, the bed was very comfortable, the room was very spacious, there was enough coffee and tea, there is free WiFi, enough warm blankets.
  
  What could be improved: I didn't like that there is no mirror to do your hair/makeup or look at an outfit other than the one in the bathroom, the bathroom ceiling has clear signs of being dirty and full of what looks like mold, the slide door doesn't close properly, the curtains are falling off at the one end.

  It was easy to locate the place. The rooms and toilets were clean. The bedding was perfectly, I love white bedding 🤗. The place is safe even have camera's.

  What could be improved: Unfortunately, due to the fact that the facilities were fully booked at the time, there was an inadequate supply of hot water.
  This meant that one is unable to use bathroom facilities/shower etc.
