The Hide in Sandown-Sandton Overview

You know what really caught me off guard about The Hide in Sandown-Sandton? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it genuinely feels like a hidden gem tucked away on this quiet stretch of Middle Lane. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Johannesburg’s business district, but somehow this three-star place manages to feel completely removed from all the Sandton chaos.

The first thing that hit me walking in was how they’ve managed to create this almost residential vibe in what could easily have been just another corporate hotel. The lobby’s got this warm, understated thing going on – nothing flashy, but you can tell someone actually thought about the space instead of just throwing generic hotel furniture around. Check-in was refreshingly quick too, which honestly matters when you’ve been dealing with OR Tambo and Johannesburg traffic. The staff seemed to actually know the area, not just the scripted tourist spots – when I asked about getting to Rosebank without hitting peak traffic, the guy at the front desk gave me this brilliant back-route tip that saved me probably thirty minutes.

What really sold me on the place though was the attention to those little details that make or break a stay. The rooms are thoughtfully laid out – not huge, but everything’s exactly where you’d want it to be. The beds are properly comfortable (and I’m pretty picky about mattresses), and there’s actually decent storage space, which you don’t always get at this price point. The bathrooms are spotless and well-lit, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. I stayed on the third floor and it was remarkably quiet considering you’re surrounded by one of Africa’s busiest financial districts – apparently their windows actually work, unlike some places I could mention. The WiFi was solid throughout my stay, which is crucial when you’re trying to get work done between meetings. Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk to Sandton City if you want to do some shopping, and the Gautrain station is close enough that you don’t need to stress about airport transfers. What I really appreciated was being able to walk to dinner spots in the evening without feeling like I needed to plan some major expedition – there’s this excellent little Ethiopian place just a few blocks away that the concierge recommended. The hotel’s got this 8.9 rating that feels completely earned – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just doing the fundamentals really, really well at a price that won’t demolish your travel budget.

Early Johannesburg trip booking requires advance planning during peak seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s museums, world-class wine tours, and authentic South African cultural experiences.

  • Wonderful stay. – Mbalenhle from South Africa – September 8, 2025 (10/10)

The host lady is super kind. She is very accommodating and helpful. Loved every moment at the place. Second time staying here and I'll probably come back next time.

  • Home away from home – Gumede from South Africa – September 8, 2025 (10/10)

The Hide has become my home away from home. I love the area and how clean the rooms are. Marvelous is such an amazing host and is very attentive to my needs. She is efficient and cleans speedily especially on the days I work from there without lowering the standard of cleanliness. As someone who travels frequently for work, I enjoy staying at the Hide as it is comfortable. Definitely worth the price.

  • Excellent stay I must say – Mbali from South Africa – July 25, 2025 (9/10)

My stay was perfect, the bed was comfortable and the service was excellent. I highly recommend.

What could be improved: They should place a mirror in the bathroom and a full mirror on the bedroom

  • Wonderful – Badenhorst from South Africa – July 24, 2025 (9/10)

The bedding, the entertainment, the beautiful lawn, interior, pool and the service. It was very comfortable and cozy and offered good entertainment.

What could be improved: The plugs went off at times and the power would have to be rebooted. The guy in the next flatlet woke me up at 3 in the morning by knocking on the wall or something and make very loud noises.

  • Great Location! Excellent Staff!! – Keamogetse from Botswana – July 23, 2025 (10/10)

Great Location! Excellent Staff, Wonderful room.

What could be improved: The bed sheets were stained. There was no tea just coffee and there could have been a dustbin in the room as the one in the bathroom was small. Also the water pressure in the shower was low, my partner and I couldn't shower together, we had to shower separately.

  • Exceptional – Phindile from South Africa – July 18, 2025 (10/10)

The host welcomed us with such kindness. The room was amazing, calm colors on the wall. Quality linen and very clean. Beds are soo comfortable and place is soo peaceful even with guys working they didnt make much noise.
Breakfast is absolutely amazing and fresh. Host offered us a heater since we had a baby and she kept checking if we are okay. There was water outage but host made sure we have hot water to bath and drinking water☺ Felt like home.
Will definitely come back here and recommend to family and friends.
1st time staying here but im already inlove. Well done team. Thank you for taking care of us❤

    What could be improved: Nothing.
