The Hide Out – Home away from home Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name The Hide Out – Home away from home, I thought it might be one of those places trying too hard to be quirky. But you know what? They actually nailed it. This four-star spot tucked away on Linden Street in Sandton really does feel like you’re staying at a friend’s incredibly well-appointed place, just one who happens to have impeccable taste and probably a much better coffee machine than you do.
The location is pretty clever, actually. You’re right in the heart of Sandton’s business district – I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and be at Sandton City or the financial hub in minutes – but because it’s on a quieter residential street, you’re not dealing with the constant hum of traffic that plagues some of the bigger chain hotels in the area. The Patio part of the address isn’t just marketing speak either; there’s this lovely outdoor space that becomes the unofficial social hub in the evenings. I spent more time there than I expected, nursing a local wine and watching Johannesburg’s incredible sunsets paint the sky. The staff seems to know exactly when to chat and when to let you decompress, which honestly makes all the difference after a long day of meetings or sightseeing.
What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve managed to feel personal without being intrusive. The rooms have this lived-in elegance – think quality linens that actually feel expensive, artwork that doesn’t scream “hotel art,” and those little touches like proper reading lights and enough outlets that you’re not playing musical chairs with your devices. The breakfast situation is refreshingly straightforward too; they focus on doing a few things really well rather than overwhelming you with a mediocre buffet. And parking – which, let’s face it, can be a nightmare in Sandton – is sorted without any drama. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make you realize a place gets it. I’d definitely come back, and more importantly, I’d actually recommend it to friends without those little mental asterisks you usually attach to travel recommendations.
Johannesburg’s experiences offer urban adventures with skyline views, perfect for families wanting to discover daily life in this culturally diverse South African metropolis.

This was exactly what we were looking for. Two-day work conference stay over. It was perfectly situated to quickly run out and get dressed for evening functions and return in time.
What could be improved: No mirror or dressing table in the main bedroom. But that was not a deal breaker at all.All round excellent stay, great value for money, very comfortable, will definitely come back. – Mahomed from South Africa – March 22, 2025 (9/10)
Location was close to all amenities. Walking distance to the shops. Christine and happiness were very helpful and very friendly. It was really a home away from home.
What could be improved: Just a suggestion, maybe a few long mirrors in the rooms. The master bedroom should have a mirror.Exceptional – Filip from Sweden – March 6, 2025 (10/10)

A very pleasant House! We really felt at Home! – Sinaly from Democratic Republic of the Congo – August 19, 2024 (9/10)
For me traveling with younger kids, I couldn't find a better place to spend our small holiday with my family. We really felt at home. The place is also very spacious for kids to play or parents to enjoy fine air in the garden. Many city attractions are just from a walking distance (Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton City Mall, Parks…). The Host provided all requested additional amenities for our comfort and needs for our baby. Nolly who is the person representing the Host was very welcoming and available from arrival till departure.
