I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place tucked away on a quiet residential street in Randburg, but this little gem actually surprised me. The moment you walk up to the property on Juweel Street, there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I really appreciated after staying at some overly flashy places in Johannesburg.

The location is actually pretty clever if you think about it. Randburg sits right between Sandton’s business district and the northern suburbs, so you’re close enough to everything without dealing with the constant traffic noise that plagues hotels closer to the CBD. I mean, you can hear the occasional car, but it’s more like a gentle hum rather than the honking chaos you get elsewhere. The owners clearly put thought into the details – the rooms have this cozy, almost homey feel with decent beds (I’m picky about mattresses) and surprisingly good water pressure in the showers. Nothing fancy, but everything works properly, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when you’re actually living in the space for a few days.

What really won me over was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about helping you navigate the area. The woman at reception – I wish I could remember her name – gave me the most detailed directions to the Brightwater Commons shopping center, including which entrance to use for easier parking. Little things like that make such a difference when you’re trying to get your bearings in an unfamiliar neighborhood. The breakfast setup is pretty straightforward, nothing elaborate, but the coffee was actually decent and they had fresh fruit alongside the usual toast and cereals. I noticed they tend to get busy around 8 AM with business travelers heading out, so if you prefer a quieter morning meal, aim for either earlier or after 9:30. Parking was never an issue during my stay – there’s a small lot right on the property, which saves you from hunting for street parking or paying those ridiculous daily rates you find at bigger hotels. Look, it’s not going to blow you away with luxury amenities, but The Juweel House delivers exactly what you need for a comfortable stay without the inflated prices. Perfect if you want a reliable base for exploring Joburg without breaking the bank.

  I like that the host included extra blankets in each room, which helped with the cold.

  What could be improved: I'm not sure if it is stated in the description of the place that the Jacuzzi is not for guest use but the Jacuzzi was one of the best selling points of this place, something we looked forward to.

  Beautiful home, felt like it was my own and everyone felt relaxed and comfortable. Beds need their own special mention as they were the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in!

  The way it’s designed, it’s such a comfortable space lovely and spacious. Absolutely loved the outside couches it had to be the best spot to sit at for relaxing. The beds were super comfortable!
