The Lemon Tree Self- Catering Overview
First Impressions
The Lemon Tree Self- Catering sits quietly on Annie Road in Randburg, and honestly, you might drive past it if you’re not paying attention — which is actually part of its charm. This four-star property feels more like discovering a well-kept secret than checking into a typical hotel. The moment you pull up, there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the place, with its clean lines and that private parking right on site (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in Johannesburg).
Location & Neighborhood
Randburg is one of those areas that locals know well but tourists often overlook, which means you’re getting an authentic slice of Johannesburg life without the tourist markup. You’re actually perfectly positioned here — close enough to Sandton’s business district for meetings, but far enough away that you won’t get caught in the worst of the traffic. The couples who stay here consistently rave about the location, and I get it. There’s something nice about being in a residential area where you can walk around and feel like you’re experiencing real South African suburban life, not just another hotel district.
The Self-Catering Experience
What sets The Lemon Tree Self- Catering apart is right there in the name — you’ve got proper kitchen facilities, which changes everything about how you experience a place. I mean, being able to grab fresh produce from a local market and actually cook something decent? That’s gold when you’re traveling for more than a few days. The kitchens are well-equipped too, not those token hotel kitchenettes with a broken can opener and one sad pot. You know what I really appreciated? Having space to spread out and live a bit, rather than feeling like you’re camping in a hotel room.
The Rooms & Comfort
The accommodations strike that sweet spot between homey and refined — upscale enough that you feel well taken care of, but comfortable enough that you can actually relax. Recent guests have been rating this place incredibly highly, and after staying here, I understand why. The rooms feel spacious and thoughtfully designed, with enough storage that you can actually unpack properly. There’s good natural light, which sounds like a small thing until you’ve stayed in too many dark hotel rooms, and the beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.5 rating, The Lemon Tree Self- Catering is clearly doing something right, and it comes down to the details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The free parking eliminates one of Johannesburg’s biggest headaches, the location gives you authentic access to the city without feeling isolated, and the self-catering setup means you’re not tied to hotel meal schedules or restaurant budgets. It’s the kind of place where couples particularly seem to thrive — probably because you can create your own rhythm and routine rather than being shuffled through the typical hotel experience.
Travelers should plan their Johannesburg visit at least two months ahead for major events like Heritage Day and Freedom Day celebrations, ensuring the best experiences and prime access to popular districts and attractions.

We received a warm welcomed and shown around by the a very friendly and lovely lady, the owner. The apartment we chose was beautiful, well organized, very neat, spaceous, quiet and private.
What could be improved: There was an issue with hot water. It would just stop running or cut off when still showering and one would have to just finish with cold water.Comfortable and enjoyable stay – Gerlind from Jersey – January 2, 2025 (9/10)
Ideal location for our specific needs. The property is secure, clean, and had everything we needed. Our host was lovely, adding many special little touches were appreciated (providing an umbrella when it was raining, welcome drink, sweet surprise for Christmas, regular updates on WhatsApp). We were very comfortable. The kitchen has a decent size fridge, airfryer, microwave, hotplate and toaster – more than the standard self-catering equipment.
Decent crockery, glassware etc. We had access to the pool and a barbecue. Will stay again!
What could be improved: The AC was very noisy, bulky – we only used it the first night fortunately as the weather turned cooler.Excellent accommodation which exceeded expectations and a superb host. Highly recommended. – Lisle from Maldives – September 13, 2024 (10/10)

Accommodation had excellent self-catering kitchen and equipment. The rooms are large and tastefully furnished. The beds were really comfortable and the electric blanket very appreciated! No extra charges for cleaning during our stay.
