You know what caught me off guard about The Space? I was expecting another cookie-cutter business hotel in Sandton, but this place actually has personality. It’s tucked away on Nerina Road in Morningside – honestly, I drove past it twice the first time because it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the street. But that’s kind of the point, I think.

The whole vibe is more like staying at a really well-designed friend’s place than a traditional four-star hotel. The staff remember your name after one night (which, let’s be honest, doesn’t happen much in Johannesburg anymore), and there’s this relaxed energy that makes you want to actually hang out in the common areas instead of just rushing through to your room. I mean, the lobby has these comfortable couches where people actually sit and work or chat – not the stiff, formal setup you usually get. The rooms are spacious without feeling empty, and they’ve got this modern thing going on without being cold or sterile. My room had floor-to-ceiling windows that made the space feel huge, plus the bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being so close to Sandton’s business district. You’re maybe a ten-minute drive from the main Sandton CBD action, but Morningside itself has this residential calm that means you actually sleep well. Parking was straightforward too – none of that circling-the-block nonsense you get with some city hotels. The breakfast situation is solid without being over-the-top fancy; they do a proper spread but it’s not one of those overwhelming buffets where half the food goes to waste. Actually, the coffee was better than I expected – they’ve clearly put some thought into sourcing decent beans. I stayed during a busy conference week and the place never felt chaotic or overwhelmed, which tells me they know what they’re doing operationally. The Wi-Fi worked consistently (crucial for anyone trying to get work done), and the housekeeping was thorough without being intrusive. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with flashy amenities or over-the-top luxury, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want – a place that just works really well at being a comfortable, well-run hotel where the details are handled thoughtfully.

  I really liked the apartment's aesthetics; it was very spacious and included all of the kitchen supplies. The location was ideal, both safe and peaceful. I would strongly recommend the space.
