I mean, this three-star spot doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s refreshing in an area where hotels sometimes oversell themselves.

The building itself has this understated residential vibe that actually works really well if you’re looking for something more low-key than the massive corporate hotels dominating Johannesburg’s financial district. When I walked into the lobby, it felt more like stepping into a well-appointed apartment building than a typical hotel – which makes sense given the name, I suppose. The staff seemed to know their regular guests, and there’s something to be said for that kind of personal touch. My room was clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but thoughtfully laid out with decent wifi and a bathroom that actually had proper water pressure (always a gamble in this part of town, honestly). The terrace areas are probably the highlight – you get these nice views without feeling like you’re in a goldfish bowl, which is surprisingly hard to find around Sandton.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re practically in the heart of everything. The location on Minerva Avenue puts you within walking distance of Sandton City if you don’t mind a bit of a stroll, and getting an Uber to the Gautrain station takes maybe five minutes on a normal day. Parking was straightforward too – none of that cramped underground nightmare situation you get at some places nearby. The 8.8 rating makes total sense when you consider what you’re actually paying for versus what you get. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it delivers on the basics really well, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re in town for business or just want a decent base for exploring the area. If you’re the type who needs a huge pool or elaborate breakfast spread, this probably isn’t your spot – but if you want somewhere reliable and unpretentious in Sandton without the premium price tag, it’s definitely worth considering.

  It’s spacious, good WiFi as it was a working holiday. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, most of utilities required for a comfortable stay.
  
  What could be improved: Although I received the instructions for wifi etc before the day of arrival, the checkin process could be improved. Knowing the code for the gate (if any) when we had two cars it was a bit difficult as there’s only one set of keys.
