The Tree House Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about The Tree House? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there. This four-star boutique spot in Johannesburg sits tucked away on a quiet residential street in Randburg, and honestly, it feels like you’ve stumbled into someone’s incredibly stylish secret hideaway. The property has this organic, almost treehouse-like quality with its natural materials and the way it seems to blend into the leafy surroundings — I mean, you’re still very much in the city, but there’s something unexpectedly peaceful about the whole setup.
The Randburg Advantage
Here’s the thing about staying in Randburg that most people don’t realize until they’re actually here — you get all the perks of being close to Johannesburg’s main attractions without the chaos of staying right in the city center. The Tree House sits in what locals consider one of the better residential pockets, and I can see why couples rate this place so highly. There’s something romantic about the tree-lined streets and the fact that you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of just traffic. Plus, you’re still only about 20 minutes from Sandton if you need to get to the business district, and the airport is pretty accessible too.
The Room Experience
My room had this wonderful balance of contemporary design and natural elements that felt both sophisticated and comfortable. The attention to detail is what really impressed me — things like the quality of the linens, the way the lighting was designed to feel warm rather than clinical, and honestly, the fact that everything just worked properly. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with rainfall showers that actually have good water pressure (which, let me tell you, isn’t always a given). What I appreciated most was the sense of space — even though this isn’t a massive property, the rooms don’t feel cramped or cookie-cutter.
Dining and Amenities
The restaurant here operates more like a intimate dining room than a typical hotel eatery, and the food actually reflects some genuine thought about local ingredients and flavors. Breakfast was particularly good — they do this thing with their eggs that I’m still thinking about weeks later. The staff seems to know their regulars, which tells you something about the kind of place this is. There’s also a small spa area that’s perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the city, though I’d recommend booking treatments in advance since it’s not huge.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets The Tree House apart is how it manages to feel both polished and personal at the same time. The 9.7 rating makes sense when you experience the level of care that goes into the details — from the way the staff remembers your coffee preferences to the thoughtful touches in the room design. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely relax, whether you’re here for business or pleasure. For couples especially, there’s something about the intimate scale and the peaceful setting that just works. You’re getting quality without the stuffiness that sometimes comes with upscale hotels, and in Johannesburg, that combination is actually pretty rare.

Reviews of The Tree House
Wonderful – Jeanne from South Africa – June 22, 2025 (9/10)
The whole place is lovely and quiant. I loved the interior.
What could be improved: I loved everything. I missed a hairdryer. Will be back, again and again!! – Zanele from South Africa – June 17, 2025 (10/10)
Everything, the host Ben was gracious and made sure we were taken care of even in his absence. The design and build of the property… a mix of modern architecture with hints of the old, the art, thoughtfulness given to spaces in the property. Can be booked for leisure and for a space to hibernate while working remotely. The placement of the electrical sockets, the small things well thought out. A lot of glass which allowed natural light indoors. The feeling of being outside while indoors and vice versa.
What could be improved: Nothing… no even just a stove top and a microwave but really didn’t have issues with that so not exactly a “didn’t like”… just and FYIWonderful – Jan from South Africa – June 12, 2025 (9/10)
Beautiful, stylish and with every amenity.stunning place to stay – Levy from South Africa – May 7, 2025 (10/10)
So unusual and stylish. Just a special place to stay. Bed super comfortable. Room warm and cost but so chic! And Ben and Sam were the best hosts – relaxed and attentive. Perfect combo. Best place I've stayed in in JHB – by leagues.
What could be improved: Nothing. I genuinely was gobsmacked by how lovely it was.Exceptional – Frieda from South Africa – April 7, 2025 (10/10)
Whether you want to be alone with your thoughts or want quality time with your spouse… this is it. – Funeka from South Africa – April 1, 2025 (10/10)
The place itself is super cute. From the sitting room with a bookshelf and the glass walls that make the place look magical. I really loved it. There are restaurants down the road and this makes it all more conducive.
What could be improved: Uhm.. struggling to find something I didn’t like.Exceptional – Jeanie from Canada – March 7, 2025 (10/10)

The Tree House is a perfect apartment for short & long stays. It is very spacious. The design is really cool. With skylights. Big windows, wrap around balcony, FULLY stocked kitchen. New spacious shower, vanity.. bed was very comfy. Bedroom and dining area have balcony door options. Great water pressure. Excellent wifi. And the Host.. really kind and helpful family. Ben met me on the street with an umbrella as it was raining.. and I had a late check in around 8pm and he was very accommodating.
Also a strip of restaurants and stores, gas station etc… 1-2 mins walk away. And huge park one street over..
I highly recommend this stay & would stay again.
