I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to The View Luxury Apartments on Michelle Street, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Sandton can be a bit hit-or-miss with accommodation, you know? But this four-star place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying here is that you’re right in the thick of things without feeling overwhelmed by the usual Sandton chaos. I mean, you’re basically a stone’s throw from Nelson Mandela Square (honestly, you can walk there in about five minutes), but Michelle Street itself is surprisingly quiet – especially at night when you actually want to sleep. The apartments themselves feel properly luxurious without being stuffy about it. My unit had floor-to-ceiling windows that lived up to the hotel’s name, giving me this incredible view over the city that I found myself just staring at during my morning coffee. The kitchen was fully kitted out too, which was perfect since I’m one of those travelers who gets tired of restaurant food after a few days.

What really won me over was the attention to detail – like, there’s decent water pressure in the shower (you’d be amazed how rare that can be), the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the entire apartment, and the air conditioning is whisper quiet. The staff at reception know their stuff too; when I mentioned I needed to get to OR Tambo early for a flight, they sorted out a reliable transfer without me having to stress about it. Parking is secure and covered, which in Johannesburg is honestly non-negotiable for me. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevators can get a bit slow during peak times – nothing terrible, just something to keep in mind if you’re rushing somewhere. The location really is the star here though. You’ve got the Sandton City shopping center practically next door, easy access to the Gautrain if you need to get around, and some genuinely good restaurants within walking distance. I particularly loved that I could grab groceries from Woolworths nearby and actually cook a proper meal in my apartment when I wanted a break from eating out. It’s that perfect balance of hotel service with the independence of having your own space – which, after staying in cramped hotel rooms for years, felt like such a luxury.

To visit Johannesburg during the vibrant spring season from September to November, travelers should plan ahead as this cosmopolitan city attracts millions of visitors seeking authentic South African experiences and world-class cultural attractions.

  What could be improved: The staff who run the property are overwhelmed. I can't over emphasize. lag time in communication is chronic. We were checked in a hour later from our intended time..then we ran out of cooking which took forever to resolve. the management and staff is a mess. property is great but the staff is less than stellar

  What could be improved: Communication could have been better, the maintenance, property manager and their whatsapp line customer service was incompetent as there was more than a 10 hour delay for a 5kg gas cylinder replacement. No one took accountability nor did they make the effort to help as they were giving us the run around.
  
  On booking the property we had a request for an extra blanket, however when we got to the property there were no extra blankets and when we asked for it again the maintenance staff had specified that the Property manager would provide it, however we did not receive the blanket and because the Property Manager only worked Monday to Friday and we were checked in for the weekend.
  
  While checking out, the property had stated to leave the keys in a box. But there was no box and as we tried to leave the keys with the security guard, the guard stated that they should be left in the box. So we went to the receptionist there and we had no luck finding this box so we had to call the Maintenance staff to assist as to where we should leave the keys.

  From the moment I stepped into the room, I was enveloped in a sense of opulence and luxury that permeated every corner. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the room, from the exquisite finishings and high-end appliances to the top-of-the-line TV and seamless wifi connectivity. The inclusion of Persian rugs added a touch of elegance, while the bedding provided a level of comfort that ensured a restful night's sleep.
  
  One standout feature that deserves mention is the excellent customer support and very quick response time provided by the support staff. Their attentiveness and willingness to assist with any requests or inquiries truly enhanced the overall experience.
  
  Moreover, the inclusion of a washing machine with dryer functionality was a major plus. This added convenience allowed for easy laundry management during my stay, further elevating the comfort and convenience offered by The View Morningside.
  
  What could be improved: As my stay extended, a few areas for improvement became apparent. The pedestrian gate remaining open, despite the presence of a security guard, raised concerns about the overall security measures in place. Implementing a system to buzz pedestrians out could enhance the sense of safety and security for guests.
  
  Additionally, the discovery of a large carpet in the room emitting a foul odor of baby poo was disappointing. This oversight in cleanliness detracted from an otherwise impeccable experience and highlighted the importance of thorough room preparation and maintenance.
  
  Furthermore, the observation of patio chairs covered in bird excretions underscored the need for enhanced cleanliness and maintenance standards in the outdoor areas of The View.
  
  In conclusion, The View Morningside offers a luxurious and comfortable stay with exceptional amenities and a dedicated staff. While there are areas that could benefit from improvement, such as security measures and room cleanliness, the overall experience was memorable. With a commitment to addressing these areas of concern, The View Morningside has the potential to provide an even more exceptional stay for its guests.
