You know what really surprised me about The Wantage Suites? I went in expecting just another decent mid-range place in Rosebank, but honestly, this three-star gem punches way above its weight. The moment you walk into the lobby, there’s this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard – think clean lines, warm lighting, and none of that flashy nonsense you get at some of the pricier hotels around Johannesburg.

The location on Wantage Road is actually pretty clever if you know the area. You’re tucked away from the main Rosebank hustle, so you don’t get the constant traffic noise from Tyrwhitt Avenue, but you can still walk to the Gautrain station in about eight minutes (I timed it). The Rosebank Mall is right there too, which means you’ve got everything from decent coffee shops to those late-night grocery runs sorted. I mean, there’s something to be said for being able to grab a proper boerewors roll from Woolworths at 9 PM when jet lag hits, you know? The staff here gets that – they’re not just reciting hotel policies, they actually know the neighborhood and will point you toward the good stuff, like that little Ethiopian place on Cradock Avenue that doesn’t look like much but serves incredible injera.

What really won me over though was how they handle the details. The suites themselves are spacious – not just “hotel spacious” where you can barely open your suitcase, but actually roomy enough that you forget you’re in temporary accommodation. The beds are properly comfortable (none of that rock-hard nonsense some places pass off as “firm support”), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which honestly feels like a small miracle sometimes in this part of town. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, and – this might sound silly but it matters – the curtains actually block out light when you need to sleep off that international flight. They’ve even got a little kitchenette setup that’s genuinely useful, not just decorative. I ended up making coffee there most mornings instead of hunting down a café, partly because it was good coffee, partly because I could sit by the window and watch Rosebank wake up. There’s something quite peaceful about that view in the early hours before the city gets going. The 9.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s the kind of place that doesn’t promise the moon but delivers solidly on everything it does offer.

  The accommodation is located in a very secure area, and the property itself is clean, quiet, and very nice. The host was extremely friendly and responded to my call immediately on the first attempt. The security staff at the property were also very helpful and welcoming.   The property is about 1 hr from the airport in Rosebank, a recommended area for tourists. We liked that we could walk 10 min to the Rosebank Mall and the attached restaurant – cafe area The Zone. In the evening we took an Uber back. The property is safe, clean and the room modern and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: We stayed in the Deluxe Double Room and found the bed a little narrow and short for two people. I also missed a hair dryer.
