You know what surprised me most about THEE BnB? It’s tucked away on Marshall Street in this really interesting part of Johannesburg that feels like it’s caught between the old city and whatever comes next. I mean, you walk out the front door and there’s this mix of converted warehouses, little cafés that locals actually go to, and these glimpses of the city’s industrial past that somehow work together.

The place itself is honestly what I’d call a solid three-star spot – nothing fancy, but they’ve got the basics down really well. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with these big windows that let in tons of light during the day. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which isn’t something you can always count on in this part of town. The owners clearly know their stuff when it comes to the neighborhood – they gave me directions to places I never would’ve found otherwise, including this incredible little Ethiopian restaurant about two blocks away that doesn’t even have a proper sign. The breakfast is simple but fresh, and honestly, sitting in their small dining area in the morning with coffee and the Johannesburg morning light streaming in felt pretty perfect.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t the kind of place where everything’s been Instagram-optimized or where you’re going to find a concierge desk. It’s more like staying at someone’s well-organized home, if that someone happened to really understand what travelers need. The check-in was straightforward, parking is right there (which, trust me, matters in Joburg), and the whole experience just felt… real, I guess? The staff actually seemed to care about whether you had a good stay rather than just going through the motions. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since you’re walking distance from some of the city’s better coffee shops and you can easily get around to the main attractions without feeling like you’re stuck in a tourist bubble. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Johannesburg rather than just visiting it.

  Nothing at all – except maybe the fact that there is a parking slot
  
  What could be improved: My experience was disappointing from the start. Upon arrival, I discovered that the owner does not coordinate with the building reception, so check-in had to be done with the security guard, who seemed completely unaware of my booking. Once I finally managed to check in, finding the room was a challenge: it required taking one elevator, walking across the entire second floor, taking another elevator, and then using the stairs. It takes around 5 minutes just to get outside, so forgetting something in the room becomes a hassle.
  
  Upon entering the room, I found that the cleaning staff had left the tap running, wasting water. There was no hot water either—despite following the provided instructions, the system wasn’t working. Later in the night, the room became uncomfortably hot because the air conditioning was broken, and to my shock, the cooking plate was on (we hadn’t used it, so it must have been left on before our arrival). Even worse, it was impossible to turn it off, which is both a safety hazard and likely contributed to the heat in the room.
  
  Overall, my stay was a frustrating and unsafe experience. I would not recommend this place and definitely won’t stay here again.
