Tintswalo Nests Overview
Honestly, Tintswalo Nests caught me off guard in the best possible way. Tucked away on Juta Street in Braamfontein, this three-star spot sits right in the middle of Johannesburg’s creative heartbeat – and I mean that literally. You’re basically sleeping above one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods, where university students mix with artists and the energy never really dies down completely. The building itself has this industrial-chic thing going on that actually works, probably because Braamfontein has always been a bit rough around the edges in the most authentic way.
What I really appreciated was how the place doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The rooms are compact but thoughtfully designed – you know those tiny details that make you think someone actually lives in small spaces and gets it? Like having enough plugs near the bed and hooks in logical places. The bathrooms are surprisingly decent for what you’re paying, though don’t expect a soaking tub or anything fancy. From my room, I could see straight into the neighborhood’s daily rhythm, which honestly became part of the entertainment. There’s something oddly comforting about watching Joburg wake up from your window while you’re having coffee.
Location-wise, you’re in walking distance of some seriously good food – and I’m talking about places locals actually eat, not tourist traps. The Neighbourgoods Market is close enough that you’ll smell the Saturday morning cooking, and Constitution Hill is right there if you want to dive into some history. Parking can be a bit of a mission during the day (welcome to Braamfontein), but the staff actually knows the area well enough to give you real advice about where to leave your car safely. The neighborhood does get lively at night – university area, you know – so light sleepers might want to pack earplugs, though I found the street sounds oddly soothing after a day or two. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no pretentious lobby experience, just friendly people who clearly know their neighborhood and aren’t shy about sharing recommendations. It’s not luxury by any stretch, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about staying somewhere that feels connected to the real pulse of the city rather than floating above it in some sterile bubble.

I liked the apartment
What could be improved: There was an main switch kept switching off when trying to use the stove and there were unwanted little guests .Despite this, I had an overall pleasant stay and look forward to visiting again in the future. – Given from South Africa – February 7, 2024 (8/10)
I was very pleased with the hotel's location, as it was convenient for shopping and exploring the local area, not to forget the comfortability which made me enjoy the stay.
What could be improved: However, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of my room. While I understand that I arrived early, I do hope that future guests will be able to enjoy a clean and comfortable room upon check-in.Very Good – Fortune from South Africa – March 13, 2023 (8/10)
The design of the room and how responsive the host was.
What could be improved: The noise the other residents made. The fridge wasn't cold enough.
