I ended up grabbing groceries from the nearby Woolworths and making breakfast a couple of mornings, which honestly saved me some cash and felt more relaxed than rushing to a restaurant. The beds are properly comfortable too – none of that rock-hard nonsense you sometimes get in apartment-style accommodations.

Location-wise, Randburg is one of those areas that grows on you. It’s not the flashy heart of Johannesburg, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re close enough to get into the city center when you want the urban energy, but Surrey Avenue itself has this quieter, more residential vibe that I found pretty refreshing after busy days exploring. There’s decent parking (which anyone who’s driven in Jo’burg will appreciate), and the area feels safe for walking around during the day. The staff – well, they’re more like property managers really – are responsive when you need them but don’t hover, which suits the independent apartment feel perfectly. I had a minor issue with the Wi-Fi on my second day, and they sorted it out within a couple of hours without making a big production of it. You know what really sealed the deal for me though? The little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need – proper blackout curtains that actually block light, enough power outlets near the bed, and bathroom amenities that don’t feel like they came from a budget motel. It’s not luxury in the marble-and-gold sense, but it’s thoughtful comfort that makes you want to extend your stay.
