Sometimes these places surprise you, and this four-star spot absolutely delivered on that “oasis” promise. Located right on Middle Road, it’s one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special in Johannesburg, even though it’s not exactly hidden.

The apartments themselves are genuinely spacious – I mean, we’re talking proper living spaces here, not those cramped hotel rooms where you’re tripping over your suitcase every five minutes. Each unit has this modern, clean aesthetic that actually feels homey rather than sterile. The kitchens are fully kitted out too, which honestly saved me a fortune since eating out in Joburg every night can get pricey fast. I particularly loved the floor-to-ceiling windows in my unit; they let in this gorgeous natural light that made even the greyest Highveld morning feel welcoming. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout (tested it extensively while working from the couch), and the air conditioning works like a dream – crucial during those sweltering summer afternoons.

What really sets this place apart though is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re close enough to the buzzing areas that you can easily hop over to Rosebank or Sandton for dinner, but Middle Road itself has this quieter, more residential feel that I found surprisingly relaxing. There’s decent parking – always a concern in Joburg – and the security is proper without being over-the-top intimidating. The staff at reception were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. When I needed directions to Constitution Hill, the guy at the desk actually drew me a little map and warned me about the roadworks on Pritchard Street. Those kinds of touches matter when you’re trying to navigate a city. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls could be slightly thicker – you might catch the occasional sound from neighboring units, but nothing that kept me awake. Overall, it’s one of those places that gets the balance right between being sophisticated enough for business travelers but comfortable enough that you’d actually want to hang out there on a weekend. The 9.5 rating it’s gotten makes complete sense to me.
