You know what caught me off guard about Urbanzuluhouse? I was expecting just another generic guesthouse in Johannesburg, but this place actually has some serious personality tucked away on Ballyclare Drive. I mean, Sandton isn’t exactly known for its boutique charm – it’s all glass towers and shopping centers – but somehow this three-star spot manages to feel different from the usual business hotel scene.

The house itself sits in this quiet residential pocket that most visitors to Sandton never see. It’s honestly refreshing after dealing with the madness of the main district (and trust me, if you’ve ever tried to navigate around Nelson Mandela Square during lunch rush, you’ll appreciate the peace). What I really liked was how the owners haven’t tried to make it something it’s not – it’s a converted house that still feels like a home, complete with those little quirks you’d expect. The rooms have character, though I’ll be honest, don’t expect five-star luxury here. But that’s actually part of the appeal, you know? There’s something genuine about staying somewhere that doesn’t feel like it was designed by a hotel chain committee.

The location works better than you’d think too. Sure, you’re not walking distance to Sandton City – though let’s face it, nothing in Sandton is really walking distance from anything else anyway. But you’re close enough to zip over when you need to, and the residential setting means you can actually get some sleep at night without the constant hum of traffic that you get closer to the main strips. I found myself appreciating the morning quiet, especially since South African cities can be pretty intense once they get going. The staff genuinely seem to care about what they’re doing, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re trying to figure out your way around a city that can feel overwhelming if you don’t know it well. They’ll actually give you real directions instead of just pointing toward the nearest mall, and they know which Uber drivers to avoid during peak hours – that kind of local knowledge you can’t Google.

  The room was bigger than I expected,and the bed was very comfortable and big. All the facilities were in good condition and there was everything I needed for my stay.

  Loved the property – great location, very tranquil. Above all, the room was incredible, and far exceeded my expectations. It was extremely spacious with a luxurious bath and shower! Would have loved to stay longer to take advantage of the pool and the braai area! And thanks to Fani for make it an overall excellent, if way too short, experience.

  I’m talking about the fashion gallery, the salon, the comfortable bed, the super soft and clean WHITE linen, the fast free Wi-Fi, the pool view and easy access to it, the friendly staff, and the amazingly kind hearted hosts. 😊

  The property is exactly as advertised on Booking.com. The room was clean and the pool was exceptional. The staff on the property (special mention for Franny, she’s amazing!) were friendly and helpful. Our host, I believe it was, was also very attentive and ensured that we were comfortable throughout our stay.
  
  What could be improved: Construction was taking place at the time of our booking so there were quite a few people on the property well into the evening. However, they were not bothersome at all.

  Good service.Even though the place is still under construction we were given excellent service by both the staff and the owner
  They went all out and organized a very nice breakfast for us and even helped us take photos around.The pool was clean .Beds were comfortable, fridges ,microwaves were spot-on. Smart tv s were really a 🍒 on top.Keep it up
  
  What could be improved: The fact that the big family rooms with a kitchenette were still under construction, but the boss was kind enough to show us around,we can't wait to come back for a visit soon when they're done so my family will be the first to enjoy the stay

  The staff were friendly and the area is quite beautiful. It's good value for money. They also offer kitchen amenities and iron free of charge which was quite good.
  
  What could be improved: The bathroom are shared so if the other residents are not clean it can be a challenge.
