I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Ventura Haus on Cedar Avenue West, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from this corner of Randburg. But you know what? This four-star spot actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself sits in this quiet residential estate that feels worlds away from the usual Johannesburg hustle, which is exactly what you want after dealing with OR Tambo traffic or a long day exploring the city.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to create this intimate boutique feel – I mean, we’re talking about a place that actually pays attention to the small stuff. The lobby has this warm, almost homey vibe that doesn’t scream “corporate hotel,” and honestly, the staff genuinely seemed to know guests by name rather than room number. My room (I stayed in one of their standard units) was surprisingly spacious, with these great floor-to-ceiling windows that let in tons of natural light. The beds are properly comfortable too – none of that rock-hard nonsense you sometimes get. I actually slept through the night without hearing traffic noise, which in Johannesburg is pretty remarkable.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re there – yes, you’re in Randburg, but you’re positioned perfectly for getting around the northern suburbs without dealing with the main highway chaos. I found myself walking to a few local spots for dinner (there’s this great little place about ten minutes away that the front desk recommended), and during the day, you’re close enough to Sandton that it’s not a trek, but far enough that you escape the business district madness. The parking situation is actually decent too, which anyone who’s driven around Joburg will appreciate. I’d definitely go back – the 8.2 rating makes sense when you factor in that they’re not trying to be everything to everyone, just doing the fundamentals really well in a part of the city that feels more authentic than your typical hotel strip.

  Very nice, clean and safe apartment. Has everything that you need. Modern.
  
  What could be improved: Booking.com shows the location being in Randburg but it's in Fourways, so we had to drive further than expected to get to the sport centre every day in traffic.
  
  There was a water problem for most of our stay. Though it's not the host's fault, it was really inconvenient not to be able to shower and a struggle with using the toilet, do dishes, etc.
