Mulbarton is one of those areas where you get the best of both worlds — close enough to central Johannesburg without all the chaos. The street itself is tree-lined and peaceful, but you’re still within reasonable distance of the main attractions. What I really appreciated was the free parking right on site — anyone who’s tried to park in Joburg city center will understand why this is such a big deal.

The Room Experience

My room was honestly better than I expected for a guesthouse. The decor strikes that perfect balance between homey and professional — not too fancy, but definitely comfortable and well-maintained. The beds are proper quality (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom was spotless. You can tell they actually care about the details here, from the fresh towels to the little touches that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just crashing for the night.

Breakfast Worth Waking Up For

Now, here’s where Villa Lugano really surprised me — the breakfast spread is actually incredible. They’ve got everything covered: continental options, full English breakfast, vegetarian, vegan, halal, and even gluten-free choices. It’s served buffet-style, which I usually find a bit hit-or-miss, but they clearly know what they’re doing. The quality was consistently good throughout my stay, and honestly, it’s the kind of breakfast that sets you up properly for a day of exploring Johannesburg.

  Breakfast was fabulous, cooked to order with a super tasty fresh fruit bowl, fresh fig jam (made by our host Eddie) and fresh sourdough bread. Got us off to a great start.
  Location very convenient and villa itself was well designed and decorated (highlighting host Emma's creative flair) and exceeded our expectations in being able to both work there and spend time relaxing in its stunning grounds.
  Our hosts were both welcoming and informative and the dinner we had with them was most enjoyable.
