I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Villa MikaMora on Dale Brook Crescent. Randburg isn’t exactly the first place that comes to mind when you think glamorous accommodations, but this little gem completely changed my perspective on staying outside Johannesburg’s city center. The villa sits tucked away in what’s actually a pretty quiet residential area, which I mean, is kind of perfect if you’re tired of dealing with the usual Sandton traffic chaos.

What struck me right away was how this four-star property feels more like you’re staying at a well-connected friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel. The owners – and you can tell there are actual owners here, not just corporate management – have this way of making you feel genuinely welcome without being overly fussy about it. The rooms have that lived-in elegance thing going on, you know? Everything’s thoughtfully put together, but it doesn’t feel like you can’t touch anything. I actually spent a good chunk of my first evening just sitting on the veranda with a glass of wine, listening to the suburban sounds of Randburg settling in for the night – it’s surprisingly peaceful once you tune out the distant hum from the N1.

The breakfast situation deserves its own mention because honestly, it’s one of those things that can make or break a place like this. They don’t do the massive buffet thing, but what they serve feels intentional – proper South African touches mixed with continental basics, and the coffee is actually good coffee, not that generic hotel stuff. You’ll probably end up chatting with other guests over breakfast, which sounds awful in theory but somehow works here. The location really grows on you too – you’re close enough to pop into Cresta or head toward Fourways without the hassle, but far enough removed that you can actually unwind. Parking‘s never been an issue (which, let’s face it, matters more than most travel sites want to admit), and the staff seem to genuinely know the area well enough to point you toward spots that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. With a 9.3 rating, you’d think maybe it’s just hype, but after staying here twice now, I get it – sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to be everything to everyone.

  They are super friendly and the rooms are clean and have the most comfortable beds. The Villa has beautiful decor around the property and feels very tranquil. It is the second time we have stayed here and will definitely stay again.
