I’ll be honest, when I first pulled up to V&S Apartments-Luxury Apartment4 on Surrey Avenue, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the name alone. But you know what? This three-star spot in The Base area really surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked into one of those quieter residential pockets of Randburg where you actually feel like you’re living somewhere rather than just passing through – and that makes all the difference when you’re staying for more than a night or two.

The apartment itself has this lived-in luxury feel that I really appreciate. I mean, it’s not trying to be some flashy hotel with marble everything, but the finishes are genuinely nice and everything works properly (which, honestly, isn’t always a given). The kitchen actually has decent counter space – I made coffee there every morning and never felt cramped. What really got me was the attention to small details that someone clearly thought through: proper blackout curtains that actually block light, decent water pressure in the shower, and enough outlets near the bed for all your devices. The living area has this warm, welcoming vibe with comfortable seating that doesn’t look like it came from a catalog.

Location-wise, you’re in a sweet spot here. The Base gives you that suburban Randburg feel without being completely cut off from everything – you can walk to a few local spots for groceries or a quick bite, and it’s surprisingly easy to get into central Johannesburg when you need to. I found the neighborhood pretty quiet at night, which was perfect for actually getting some sleep, but it comes alive enough during the day that you don’t feel isolated. Parking was never an issue either, which anyone who’s spent time navigating Joburg will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The whole area feels safe and well-maintained, and I noticed the neighbors actually seemed to know each other – always a good sign in my book. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels more like a proper apartment than a hotel room, especially if you’re staying for work or an extended visit, this place hits that balance really well between comfort and authenticity.
