I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Waldorf 2, the name had me a bit confused. You’re probably thinking of that famous New York hotel, but this is something completely different and, honestly, way more interesting for what it is. This four-star spot sits right in the heart of Sandton, and I mean really in the thick of things – you’re practically next door to Nelson Mandela Square, which is both a blessing and something to know about if you’re sensitive to crowds.

The setup is pretty unique actually – it’s on the second floor of a building, which sounds weird but works surprisingly well. You get this almost apartment-style feel that’s way more relaxed than your typical hotel vibe. The Unit 1C location means you’re getting corner positioning, so the natural light is actually really good during the day. What I love about staying here is how you feel plugged into real Johannesburg life rather than stuck in some sterile hotel bubble. The sounds of the city drift up just enough to remind you where you are, but it’s not overwhelming – though I’d still pack earplugs if you’re a super light sleeper.

Sandton can be intense if you don’t know your way around, but this location puts you within walking distance of the Gautrain station, which honestly saves you so much hassle getting to and from the airport. The street level has that busy African city energy – vendors, businesspeople, tourists all mixing together – but once you’re upstairs, there’s this calm that settles in. I found the staff really knows the area well too, which matters more than you’d think. They’ll steer you toward the good restaurants (skip the touristy spots in the square and ask them where they actually eat) and give you real talk about timing your movements around the city. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be luxury, but everything works the way it should, and there’s this authentic feel that you just can’t manufacture. You know what really sold me though? The small details that show someone’s actually thinking about the guest experience, like proper coffee (not that instant stuff so many places try to get away with) and the kind of shower pressure that actually wakes you up in the morning.

  The apartment is beautiful, well taken cared of. Me ad my family loved it, we felt like we were at home, everything we needed was there.

  What could be improved: The cleaner lied about us , saying we were drunk just because she saw us carrying alcohol. The fact that when we got there , there were two bookings and we were told to take our things and leave .

  What could be improved: Apparantley the host was not aware of our booking, check out time was not as Stated on booking.com. The sheets in the main bedroom were dirty, balcony had washing hanged. 2nd toilet was blocked

  Everything about the place it looks soooo beautiful pictures aren't doing it any justice newly renovated beautiful furniture beds are extremely comfortable..owner communicates well,check in process is very easy and what stood out was the check out time.of 14h00 so convenient for Sunday reset before going back home… I wil definitely go back to this place
